golferguync, Actually this will be the 3rd year of the RIBN program. The first year was for 2011-2012 year and only 10 applicants applied. Since the application period just closed, we actually wont hear anything until May or the first week in June for a point count meeting, just like last year. Cape fear has always taken 90 students (70 ADN, 10 LPN bridge and 10 RIBN).

KAO. That's interesting what you said about the RIBN program. I was speaking with the RIBN coordinator last week and she mentioned that the point count is in mid-April and we would know the final result by the beginning of May. I guess I don't have the correct info on the program. I know a person that was taken last year and will start their nursing classes this fall. I was told that his cohort was the first one taken in the RIBN program at CFCC. Do you think you have a good chance in getting accepted into the program this year? I am excitedly waiting to hear if I will be accepted in the program. I am taking BIO 111 and pre-calc over the summer. Are you taking any summer classes?

Golferguync..Seeing that the program JUST closed April 1st, those who applied April 1st still have to take their PSB and that could take two more weeks before the next test date. Also, the RN programs application deadline ended in January and it took 2 months before we even got point count letters. Last year the application period closed I believe the middle of April and I didn't receive my point count letter until June because I had to drive back from my hometown to go to the meeting. I would double check the information you are getting because this program has been around since the 2011-2012 school year and you can actually find all of the information you need on the website. Also, when you meet with Celeste to begin with she gives you all the information for the program. I have learned a lot of these advisors tell you what you want to hear but that really isn't the case. The RIBN program is REALLY growing esp for UNCW students like myself who don't have the gpa to get into UNCW's school of nursing and turn to this program since we are already enrolled and have completed a couple years. All of the UNCW nursing advisors tell the students who want to do nursing but dont have the grades about the program so I am guessing that this years applicants will be significantly higher than last years total of 36. I am hoping that I get into this program since I will have finished a 4 year degree already and would love to complete another while doing nursing classes. Honestly, If I got into this program and the RN program, I would probably choose the RIBN program because it guarantees you a spot in UNCW's nursing school. It makes me wonder how many RN applicants who got in also applied to the RIBN program. I am taking summer classes but, they are classes in order to finish my degree and pre reqs for another degree and minor.

KAO. I hope you get into the RIBN program, I am sure you will do great in the program once you get there. I did not have many of the pre-reqs for admission into CFCC's ADN program so my point total did not allow me acceptance into that program for this fall. I received my letter for the point count assessment today and it is scheduled for Thursday, April 18th, anytime between 9a-5p. I hope it does not take a long time to get the results after the point count.I am taking some classes this summer, what are you taking?

Hey thought I'd let people know that I got a letter in the mail today that stated what alternate I was. So I would check your mail boxes

Forgot to say..The letter says the exact same thing as the first letter we got but now they just included a paragraph stating what number I was and that this doesn't mean I am accepted and to wait for a phone call...

hey everyone. I got into the RIBN program for 2013. I'm so excited to start my new career path in Nursing. Good luck to all of you who will be starting the ADN program this year, maybe we will meet next year when I start Nursing classes.

golferguync, congratulations on your acceptance into RIBN program! Good luck!

I am studying in UNCW now (graduating in May '14) and plan to apply to CFCC ADN program and possibly RIBN as well. I need to find out more about the RIBN, though, as I don't understand what the curriculum would be. CFCC site says that a student must take one UNCW nursing course per year; does that mean either Spring or Fall, or each semester? This probably sounds stupid, but it is confusing...

But good luck! :)

The RIBN program is just a different track then going to UNCW for nursing or CFCC ADN. It actually is a combination of the two. You are required to take 1 online per year and I would say it would have to be fall class. If you have more questions you can talk Erin Luce at Cfcc. Generally you would take all your pre-req at Cfcc and then all your ADN classes at Cfcc. After your 3rd year you would take NCLEX and could start working as RN.The last year you would take all online nursing classes through UNCW and graduate with a BSN. I will be happy to answer any other questions that you may have. Let me know.

golferguync, thanks very much for the information and advice. :inlove: I did end up talking with Erin Luce, and am still asking her questions. I have taken all the co-requisites and so the first year I would only be taking one UNCW class...It sounds right now that it might not be very cost-effective, comparing to doing ADN at CFCC and then RN-BSN program at UNCW. Oh well. I am happy for you. I will keep you in mind, if questions about the program come up.

How is everyone else doing who is beginning this Fall? :alien: It must be so exciting...so soon! Are you ready with books, supplies?...I cannot wait to apply for Fall 2014!

I am glad you spoke with Erin she is great to talk to about the program. Everyone is in different situations, many of the students in my cohort have done some pre-reqs all at different levels. We will not start any Nursing classes till 2014. Maybe you will be in that class with us. I know of some of the others who are applying for the ADN in 2014. As you have probably read in this post, many of the students who got in to ADN 2013 had combined PSB and pre-reqs scores over 350. If you do apply make sure you prepare for the PSB before going to take it so you get the best score. It makes a huge difference in whether or not you get in. They have some classes outside of CFCC and you can go to the Learning Lab at Cfcc for help with the test. I am taking A&P 1 and microbiology along with archaeology online at UNCW. Good luck to you in your college and career path.
