Anyone applying to ABSN at WSSU for Jan 2012

U.S.A. North Carolina

Hello all,

I wanted to know who all is planning on applying to the accelerated program at Winston Salem State starting in Jan 2012. I'm taking my pre reqs now and if anyone that has graduated or currently in the program has any tips that would be wonderful.

Thanks,

David

I have worked as a chiropractor for the past few years, and enjoyed it, however, the profession as a whole leaves alot to be desired...If you want to practice in an evidence based fashion, you are really limited in your ability to help people. I was recently laid off following the sale of the practice I was with, and see this as an opportunity to broaden my horizons and become employable in a field that I can always feel good about. I would like to take it further after gaining some experience and become a FNP as well.

I did not get to meet with an advisor because I stumbled upon the program late, and there was no appointment availability before the applications were due, so I just sent everything in....

Did they tell you about the 10 year old prereq rule firsthand or are u guessing about that? I ask because I took general chemistry 1 and 2 more than ten years ago....although I had three biochemistry courses, and a human nutrition course based in biochemistry since then...I wonder if they will let those count??

They did not tell me about the pre-req rule, but with your biochemistries I would hope that they consider those as advanced courses and count them as well. You could always email them and ask.

yes i have been accepted last year..but could not make it.

riturathee16 you were accepted last year without the dev. psych class completed? were you enrolled in it when you applied? sorry for all of the questions...just trying to see what my chances are for getting in.:)

I am currently enrolled in the developmental psych prereq too....it is my last one to finish. I know they will give preference to students who have finished everything, but I think its much worse if you have hard science courses left to take. when i asked that lady in the office about it she said that she does see people who are completing prereqs get admitted, and that for the 2012 class she said, "dont worry, your not alone in that..." Not sure if she meant that most people still have something to finish....??

When are we suppossed to hear back? Do students that have finished all the pre-reqs get priority? I am also wondering about the funding and job placement. Do the students have a say in the department they work at Baptist? Thanks for any input :D

from what I understand, the students that have finished all the prereqs do get priority...someone else posted that the year that she applied 15 people had finished them and were admitted before the others were looked at.

The funding, as far as others have posted, is provided for like 30 of the 45 students, but I think this changes from year to year based on their forecasted needs etc. It is set up as a loan, which is then repaid by service, and I do believe that you have to apply for and interview at jobs with the hospital. It would depend on if the department you want needs people at the time.

My understanding is that acceptance/denial letters go out sometime in october...usually mid october I think.

Yes I am enrolled in dev psy that time...but could not have completed it by the start of the semester in January. And yes i have been accepted in the program when my dev psy class was supposed to be completed in December.

kenthomas i've heard the same about the funding.

once the 45 are chosen, you will set up an interview date/time with someone from baptist. i think in the interview you can express what departments you are interested in but that doesn't necessarily mean you will get it (depends on what departments need employees, i suppose). approximately 30 out of the 45 will get the funding from baptist by signing a 3-year contract to work for them. i've also been told that the 3-year contract isn't "paid" back by years worked, it's done by time/hours worked. so...if you work overtime you can work off your contract earlier than 3 years.

i'm starting to get anxious!! haha good luck everyone!!

Can anybody tell me about the schedule...how it will work...

I

Cdkjasso....hii...myself ritu, I live in hickory...how are you doing?

Today is the deadline.....and now we all wait IMPATIENTLY!!:yeah:

September is going to drag by....Oh Anxiety!!
