I am totally getting ahead of myself but I thought I'd see what you guys know anyway. I'm getting ready to start my LPN program next month, and will graduate in May of 2010. We intend to relocate to the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill/etc area, and I was looking online at job listings and it doesn't seem to be very promising for an LPN. Most of the jobs were listed for home health care which isn't really something I'm interested in. I'm open to LTC, but I barely ever saw that. Am I gonna be totally SOL? My husband is getting out of the Marine Corps and we were kinda counting on me being able to work then. What do you guys know about the area?

I'm actually in CA but I'm seriously considering moving to NC as there are no LVN jobs here. I have a brother near Greensboro that I can stay with until I find a job. Anyway, your best bet would be to call around places. I found a listing of all the nursing homes in NC and just started calling. I haven't been focusing on any particular area but about every third call I make is hiring at least PRN and frequently for the 3-11pm shift. That is a considerably better response than what I'm getting here in the SF Bay Area, CA where facilities aren't even hiring on-call.

Look into Duke Med center in Durham. I live in Raleigh, but I am an RN. it was hard to find a job, but Duke was willing to work with me.
