Moving to wonderful NC, triangle area, any advice on favorite hospitals?

And I am really looking forward to this move. My daughter and our first grandchild live in Raleigh, and we love the area. We are relocating from the Atlanta area. Long drive. Any advice on your favorite place to work? Money will be a consideration, I believe there will be quite a pay decrease, at present I make over $30 an hour plus shift/weekend diff. I know there are several great hospitals, am considering Duke, Rex, Wake Med. Any others I should look into, or which of these offer the best work conditions, staffing ratios, and overall nurse satisfaction? Thank you in advance for any feedback, and I look forward to meeting some of you!

Depends on how long you have been a nurse will determine your pay but I am not sure if your gonna get what you were making in Atlanta unless you take a float pool position and work weekends. I just got hired at Wakemed and they have alot of positions on their website. Rex and Wakemed are nice hospitals and alot of people want to work there. Wakemed is feeling the recession crunch right now. They announced in the paper last week that they are not giving raises this year, matching 401k's and giving out Wakeshare checks in order to save money and keep everyone working. I heard the UNC were having layoffs in some departments. Kinda scary for hospitals but there is still a need.Good Luck in your seach, you will definetly find a job. Its just the new grads that are having trouble at this point.

I'm moving to the Raleigh area as well. I'm a new grad and am still looking for a job out there. There's Rex, WakeMed, UNC, and Duke Hospitals. I'm not sure which have the highest job satisfaction ratings, but I'm trying to get in the GEMS program at Duke or hired as a new grad at UNC. Anyway, there seem to be a lot of nurses on here whom either live in or are moving to the area. Hopefully we'll be able to make some friends before we go!

Thanks for the replies, info. I do not plan on moving until at least 6 months from now, hopefully the economy will be turning around. If not, I do have a job I love now, I just want to be close to my grandchild and daughter. And I love the triangle area!
Hope to meet some of you there.

Hey newnursegrad09,
Have you applied to the GEMS program at Duke? I emailed them on Friday about a few things, i was just wondering if you got in already, or if you had spoken with them.

For the new graduate who is interested in GEMS program at Duke.Duke Durham Regional Hospital is already accepting applicants for their GEMS program you can post your application to their website. Duke Raleigh Hospital will open their GEMS program this coming fall. I am a new graduate too and have a pending endorsement here in NC. My original license state is in California. As a new graduate I really feel frustrated sometimes coz most of the health care facilities are requiring at least one year clinical experience which I do not have.I am just hopeful with these new nurse graduate programs in wakemed unc and Duke. I also found many nursing homes who are accepting newly grads in Raleigh area. Best of luck to all of Us!!
