Info on Greenville please...

I have an interview at Pitt County later this month and was wondering about the area. From what I've read online its nice, but I wanted to hear from people who actually live there. I have no idea how the interviews will go as I will be traveling from KY for them. From what I've read about the hospital system it sounds really nice as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Panera Bread is good - a couple blocks away from the hospital. I have heard several people there say it was a good hospital from the patient perspective. I do not know anyone who works there, though.

I had a friend who was in the ICU while she was pregnant, and she delivered there. I went to see her there and liked what I saw. It's been a few years, so things could have changed, but I liked it.

I have posted several times asking about Pitt. I got a few replies. Try searching through past threads here on the NC site. My stepdaughter is an RTT there and really likes working there. I applied and interviewed but wasnt chosen for the position. I didnt feel that my interview went very well. I wasnt well prepared and also didnt "connect" with the nurse manager I interviewed with. I was a patient there many years ago when pregnant with my 16y/o. From a pt's perspective it was great. From a nurses standpoint I dont know what its like. Good luck with your interview. Keep us posted!

Hard to believe no one on this board works there LOL. So far I like how the recruitment office does things, like sending you information on every conceivable thing you could ever want to know about the general area. I was just hoping to hear from nurses who work there how well they like it.

Elvish...Panera Bread is ALWAYS good LOL

Hey WildcatFanRN!! I worked at PCMH Regional Rehabilitation Center for 8 1/2 years. I just started nursing school this past January, so I'm no longer working there, but I think you will enjoy working at PCMH. It is a teaching hospital that works closely with East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine. PCMH has just opened the new heart hospital (you will not be able to miss it...it towers over PMCH). I think sometime in 2010 they are planning on expanding the women's and children's hospital. So job opportunities ought to be great. Every one I've ever come in contact with through the years have been friendly and helpful..it will not take you long to established new friends here. G'ville is a college town and it is changing and expanding as well. We have a lot of resturants to choose from, but as far as night life goes I'm 39 so I will not fit in the downtown scene there are a couple of hotels (City Bistro and Hilton that have lounges that bring in bands on the weekend that caters 30s 40s crowd. We are about 1 hr from Raleigh if you like the big city scene. 1 1/2 to 3 hrs to the beach depending which beach you go to and about 6 hrs to the mountains. About 2 hrs to Virginia and about 4-5 hrs to Myrtle Beach (my favorite stomping ground). I hope this helps...I think you will really like working at PCMH and living in G'ville or G-Vegas (college kids I think started that..lol..). Good luck with your interview and if I can be us further assistance just let me know..

Thanks, this helps alot. I'm 35 so I'm definately not into clubbing LOL. Actually I never was, even when I was younger during my first attempt at college. I'm trying not to over think things as far as my interviews go. Only one unit I'm interviewing for is remotely similar to anything I've ever worked before. From the links the nurse recruiter sent me, even my fiance will enjoy the area...he loves to fish.

Can you recommend good places to eat that are reasonably priced? We are traveling on a serious budget, but don't want to eat at Macdonald's the entire time...bleh.

Be prepared to take a skills entrance exam. I think it's called the PBDS. If you search this site you will find a few stories and tips .
I live 12 miles from Pitt County in Craven County. I am 17 minutes from Craven Regional Medical center, 20 minutes from Beaufort Hospital in Washington, NC and 35 minutes from PCH in Greenville. Perhaps I can help when it comes to relocating. I currently work at CRMC.

I work at Pitt and it is the Pitts. I don't have a lot of good things to say. I am not from Eastern NC and am surprised at how bad things are here. I work nights and we are always out of supplies and there is no way to get them!!!! We run out of butterflies, flushes, urinals, linens, you name it we run out of it. There are no procedures for administering important things like albumin and no on pays any attention to doctor's orders. People surf the internet instead of work and management does nothing about it. Management is a joke! It is like they are afraid of setting ground rules and demanding that employees live up to them.

Most (but not all, there are a few excellent care partners) of the care partners are the most lazy, ignorant people I have ever met. They make rude insulting comments about nurses to the patients and team work is not in their vocabulary. Apparently, they get paid to surf the internet all night.

Now for the nurses. This is a second career for me and I am shocked at how unprofessional most of the RNs behave. They come into work, get report, surf the internet, maybe see a patient or two, go to lunch, then surf the internet. Most, but not all, are nasty to the new grads. Actually, they are nasty to each other too.

This is my first nursing job and I pray other hospitals are not like this one. I am looking into WakeMed. RNs who moved here from other places and travelers assure me it is not. They all agree on one thing, get out of Pitt asap because you are going to lose your license. They all say it is a dangerous place to work.

Greenville is not a great place to live. I am surprised at the high amount of crime for a small town and I am from NY. People are very poor and uneducated here. If you are still around college age, you are ok socially if all you like to do is drink. If you are older than 40, move to Raleigh. You should move to Raleigh anyway. Don't make the mistake I did.
