Anyone get into Mercy SON or Carolinas College w/ a 3.0 GPA??

I'm applying to Mercy and Carolinas College nursing programs, but I'm really concerned about my chances of getting in. My college GPA is a 3.0, Ugh. I had a 3.27 until my last semester in college. Unfortunately do to life circumstances I got a 4 credit D and a few C's. Ugh. Killed my GPA. Anyway, I'm taking the SAT's in Jan, but math isn't my strong suit (especially word problems). I'm sure i'll get average scores, but they won't be enough to stand out from the crowd of other applicants and make up for my lower GPA. I do have a bachelor's degree, and I will have all but one of my non-nursing courses out of the way. Maybe that will help? So, just wondering what my chances are and if anyone has gotten into either school with a similar GPA? Thanks!

Hi, I just graduated from Mercy in December. I was admitted into Mercy and later into the accelerated program with a college GPA of 3.3 something. I talked with a lot of students who said that they had GPAs much lower than a 3.0 in their undergraduate degrees. The office of admissions looks at more than your GPA when deciding who to admit. Best of luck to you!

I actually started at Mercy May 2008. I had a 2.7 GPA, but I did have a BS. The suggestion they made when I applies was to re-take the SAT. I did, scored pretty well for being out of college for 21 years. I agree, they look at everything.

I am in accelerated progam and will graduate in August.

Go for it!

Thanks for the feedback guys. That makes me a little more hopeful. I'm taking the SAT's in one week! Hopefully my score will be halfway decent.

Hi,
Is the accelerated program at Mercy any harder than the normal program?? Do you have to specify that you want to go into the accelerated program at the beginning? I have just been accepted to Spring 2010 , but would be all for getting it done faster if possible. I have already been to college once 5 years ago and am going back to pursue nursing so for me, the quicker the better. Any thoughts??

Hi NursChar,

Congratulations on your admission into Mercy. I was curious what your undergrad gpa was? I had applied there about a year ago but I got denied admission. I have a BS in Biology with a 3.0 gpa and a M.Ed with a gpa of 4.0. My SAT scores werent that great so maybe that's why I was denied. I was just curious what your gpa was so I can get an idea of what would make me more competitive if I ever decide to apply again.

I wish you the best of luck.

Hmmmm. My undergrad GPA was around 3.0, not sure what exactly, but all of my pre-reqs that I have taken to be able to get it in, Chemistry, A & P I and II, college Algebra, were all A's and I have my CNA as well. That may be required, not sure ( I get all the different schools and their requirements mixed up). They also have a requirement that the TEAS test must be taken, so with your education and this new TEAS test requirment, I'd say you would be a great candidate! I applied last year to some places and didn't get in, but just continued my pre-reqs and here I go in Spring. DO NOT give up..If I have learned anything from this process it is that!! Getting into nursing school has been MUCH harder than I thought it would be, many road bumps and hurdles , but I'm excited now and am ready to get started.

Hi,
I'll be starting at Mercy in Spring 2010 to. Unfortunately the accelerated option is not offered in the spring. I was hoping to accelerate to and was really bummed to hear that it would not be possible. Oh well, more time to study I guess. Have you registered for your classes yet?

Hey! I just found out that we will be graduating in Aug 2011. For some reason I was thinking Dec 2011, so I'm good with that , that's fast enough without killing ourselves, right?!
I haven't registered yet. I am going on Sept 29. Have you??

Yes, I went last Saturday. The people at the school seem as though they really care about the students. I guess it's one of the advantages of a small school...You're not just a number.
