Anyone in any student nurse organizations??

Updated Sep 12, 2009 at 02:21 PM by NCphoenix

Hi Everyone,

I've been doing research for scholarships in NC and as I research have run across a few that like membership in various organizations as well as community involvement and leadership skills. I'm pretty sure I can do that, unfortunately for a limited period as time is limited.

Anyway, one of the scholarships was offered by Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association (FNSNA) so I went on their web page to see who they are and what the eligibility criteria is for the scholarship. I then went to the NC info and found the NC Association of Nursing Students. Turns out they're having their Annual Convention from October 1-4 a block from my job. The agenda looks good and would answer a lot of career questions, such as CRNA info, ER nursing, the image of nurses and leadership. There is an NCLEX review and guest speakers. Anyone going? The fee is $65 for non-members so I'm not sure if I'll make it. Deadline is Sept 20.

So my questions are:
1) Anyone here in any student organizations? For this one in particular most were from UNC (where I hope to go anyway).
2) Any real benefits to these memberships?
3) Anyone going to the conference?

I'll keep researching and post if I find anything that seems useful. Have a good weekend.

Default Re: Anyone in any student nurse organizations??
I am the VP in our Nursing Student Assoc. We have meetings approximately twice per month before class so both the first and second year students can attend. We have community projects to support or earn money for charities we are specifically interested in, and we earn money for our organization. So far this year, we have supported St Baldricks, Susan Komen, mental illness and have plans to support a charity walk before the end of the year. We get together to support our causes and each other. Benefits include a great support system from your fellow association members, supporting charities that you are interested in and a better resume for higher education goals or career. Due to our school schedule and unexpected issues, none of our members were able to attend the October meeting. We are attempting to plan to go to the NSNA meeting in Florida in April and possibly the other state meeting in Asheville.

It is a great opportunity to get involved in your community to join your local association. In our group, all core members (the second year students that have been elected to an office position) have agreed that we would participate in meetings and be involved with the community fundraisers as long as our grades are not affected. Nursing school comes before the association.
Good luck!
