Hi newcomer,
Welcome to the group. I'm a wife and mother to 4 children (9 1/2, 9, 3, 15mths.). I'm still trying to decide what I'm going to do about attending Trinitas. I talked to the FA dept. the other day, and they haven't even begun to work on my FA package, so if I go to early registration on May 3rd...I"m going to have to pay a portion of my tuition which I do not have. So I just have to figure a lot of things out. I'm won't know if I'm accepted into ECC's program until around June 15th...I don't know why they wait so long to notify students... . Even though ECC would be more affordable to me (I live in the county)...Trinitas has a better reputation as a nursing program. What to do...what to do.

If you think the program at Trinatas is better then go there. I have not started any nursing courses as of yet. I'm still working on prereqs. Since Trinatas contacted you first I assume that's a good sign.

When you start your Nursing in September I guess you are starting with Nurisng 130.

Devote a lot of time to reading.READ REAd REAd READ.
It's a good program and prepares you very well for NCLEX.The NCLEX passing score of trinitas school is therefore very high. You may get grilled in the school exams but you will emerge victorious in NCLEX.

If you really want to know what the course is about.Drop in on 14th January at 4:00 p.m. in auditorium(Elizabeth Campus),when a senior student is having a conference for 132 students.
You will get a lot of tips about how to study, how to manage your time and how to prepare for exams.
This is basically for 132 students, who are going to have their clinical term in spring 2004, in cardiology and respiratory.

If you are doing your pre-requisites now,pay a lot of attention to Bio 105 and Bio 106. Your basics in physiology needs to be very very strong for you to succeed at Nusring school.
When you find time have some Medical distionary reading. Will help you a long way.

Good luck
Glad to see that someone around my age is pursing a nursing career. That's motivating.

Does anyone know if it would benefit me to take CPR, EKG and Phlebotomy classes now or should I wait until I'm instructed to by the teachers in nursing school?

Newcomer,
I do know that at ECC that we have to be CPR certified before we start the nursing program. I don't know what the situation is at UCC. Call Trinitas to find out?

Trinitas -Clinical semesters

You will need to take a CPR class only after you complete 130-the foundation course.

Before 131-Clinical nursing, you will have to undergo a complete physical-including PPD and Thyroid examination.
Also you need to buy Nurse Malpractice Insurance. It costs $20 for one year.
CPR classes are arranged by Trinitas for those who are entering in clinical class(131).The CPR is valid for 2 years. So you don't need to repeat it .
You start your clinicals from 131.
Lecture is one day-clinicals 3 days.Clinicals are held in Trinitas Hospital. It is a very good hospital and you learn a lot .Care plans are very focused and discussions make you confident. The staff at Trinitas is very friendly and encouraging. You definitely learn a lot of clinical stuff.Trinitas also offers EXTERNSHIP for students who have completed 2 clinical terms.Students can actually get paid during externship.Couple of my friends did it,and it was very fulfilling.
Overall the whole process is actually very stressful.I advise to complete all the prerequisites before starting the clinicals. There might not be any weekend classes from 132 onwards so prepare to give up family life for at least a year.
Some sacrifices for a year or two and will get your RN in time.
Plan,organise and be focused.
Trinitas also has very active student government. The activites are aimed at making student life better.
I think they are also doing a seminar for clinical students where senior students talk about how to study, where to focus, how to read for quizzes etc.
The information is always posted on bulletin board.
Good luck.
