Re: Rutgers Accelerated Program - Testing out of certain prerequisites
Newtonnj- I think they gave out info on challenging courses at orientation, but if you missed it- might be a good idea to contact Bruce or Lou,
bhoward@rutgers.edu or
lourusig@rutgers.edu. They could give you more information about signing up for the challenge exams.
Lynnep- It's great that you're considering nursing! Our class hasn't graduated yet (we're done in August) so I don't have any info on job placement, though I do know going back for your BSN, rather than ADN seems to promise a better job outlook. A lot of hospitals are only hiring BSN grads. Though, like I said, none of our classmates have gone into the job market yet, so who knows. There are only 6 of us this year. Rutgers accepted about 40 I believe for a target class size of 20, I guess more people didn't accept their offer as they had hoped.
As for working during the program- I haven't seen anything advertised through Rutgers about assistance in that way. Though it's certaintly feasible to have a job while you're in the program (the first summer is the most work and the hardest, so you may need to dedicate that just to classes but past that you'll definitely have time to work). It might be a good idea to get a job as a tech in a hospital. It would boost your experience and look better to employers after you graduate. There is also financial aid, need to fill out the FAFSA and all that fun stuff.
As for acceptance into the program, they told us it is very competitive. You also need to have most if not all of the prerequisites, or plan to challenge them.
