Lori - I was trying to send you a private message, but I can't figure out how to do so. I'm new to the site, hmph. When I click on your info page there is no "send message" link. Oh well - I am a Rutgers grad (bioogy) and am wondering if there is any sort of employment help with the nursing program? As an undergrad there wasn't much help - just a general board with jobs posted, but no one that you could really talk to in person. I'm hesitant to spend more money to go back to school only to find out I can't find a job (I would be doing the ABSN program). Do you have any info on how many people have job offers upon graduation? Is that the norm? Or not so much? (from what you've heard?) I was surprised to see that only 7 students were doing the ABSN program, I can't believe there aren't more. Any indication of how hard it is to be accepted? I had a 2.8 GPA, but I was a biochem major and took classes like physics, genetics, biochemistry, organic chem, parasitology, etc. so I'm wondering if they'd be lenient as I had very hard courses.

Hi,
I'm a new student to the accelerated program at Newark campus. I have question about how to challenge the pre-requisite particularly the human interactive process (HIP). Please help. Thanks so much!

Newtonnj- I think they gave out info on challenging courses at orientation, but if you missed it- might be a good idea to contact Bruce or Lou, bhoward@rutgers.edu or lourusig@rutgers.edu. They could give you more information about signing up for the challenge exams.

Lynnep- It's great that you're considering nursing! Our class hasn't graduated yet (we're done in August) so I don't have any info on job placement, though I do know going back for your BSN, rather than ADN seems to promise a better job outlook. A lot of hospitals are only hiring BSN grads. Though, like I said, none of our classmates have gone into the job market yet, so who knows. There are only 6 of us this year. Rutgers accepted about 40 I believe for a target class size of 20, I guess more people didn't accept their offer as they had hoped.

As for working during the program- I haven't seen anything advertised through Rutgers about assistance in that way. Though it's certaintly feasible to have a job while you're in the program (the first summer is the most work and the hardest, so you may need to dedicate that just to classes but past that you'll definitely have time to work). It might be a good idea to get a job as a tech in a hospital. It would boost your experience and look better to employers after you graduate. There is also financial aid, need to fill out the FAFSA and all that fun stuff.

As for acceptance into the program, they told us it is very competitive. You also need to have most if not all of the prerequisites, or plan to challenge them.

If you have any other questions just post a message or feel free to email me at sleepx2xdream@yahoo.com

Hi,

I was accepted into the accelerated nursing program this year. Unfortunately, there was horrible miscommunication and I wasn't aware of the orientation that occurred on April 15. Can anyone fill me in on what happened? When do clinicals begin? Do we have do get all that liability insurance, cpr certification, health clearance and background checks before classes begin on May 26? Also, I have to take the challenge exams for cultural dimensions and human interactive processes. Does anyone know what happens if you fail the exam? How much does the accelerated program cost? Did you guys get a package from the financial aid office because I called them and they won't give me a package until after I've registered for classes. If you can think of anything else that is crucial for me to know, please fill me in. I sooo appreciate it!

Thanks!

Hi Purrrsianz,
You will have to contact Mr. Bruce Howard: bhoward@rutgers.edu the administrative assitand/Office of student affairs to register for calsses ASAP. You also need to contact Mr. Howard to get a rutgers email account (ID and password). To sign up for the challenge exams you need to conact Lou at: lourusig@rutgers.edu . You will want to take the exams before you start the program. Lou will send you the syllabus which has the name of the book you need to read and the chapters. You may need to take the day off to go to the Rutgers campus to square all this stuff off. It took me the day and I had to go back and get Dr. Esteves signatures for taking the challenge exams on another day. On May 26 the uniform people will come in to do fittings and orders. You should have already started on getting your insurance, criminal check and immunizations started. You should go to http://nursing.rutgers.edu and click on incoming student. This should list all the requirements you need before you start the program in May. Don't stress. As long as you contact the people above they should get you on your way to getting ready for May. P.S. I have not received my financial aid information yet either but I did receiv a bill.

See you in May!

Hi Sunnyj1,

I also received the bill from Rutgers. I called last friday to find out my financial aid information. My application is still in pending, it needed to be evaluated from an financial aid advisor. The clerk advised me to call back in a week or so to find out the status. The tuition deadline is May 15. Please let me know if you have heard anything from the financial office. Thanks.
