Thanks everyone again.
I did read a lot of postings here about getting a head start on the reading before schools starts in January. Can anyone give me study tips on how prepare and study for classes other than read?
Thank you!!

You know those textbooks can be so boring. But reading the chapters before can help because u won't be so overwhelmed when classes start. Start reviewing the math for pharmachology, do they exercises in the calculate with confidence book and u will be fine. I have a study guide that can help u.
I have notes from the classes if u want to take a look.

Hey Idiamarzio
I know that reading can be really boring, specially if you have no idea what the stuff is all about, everything is new etc...
Reading your notes would be great, how can I get them?
Let me know,
Thanks

1 thing about the books . You can get the older edition of calculate w/ confidence for 0.75..it's the same book. The other books can be purchased online , get the previous edition for 2 bucks and compare the chapters in the library with the current edition. It is the same material, just rearranged. I spent under 150 for all my books for all 4 semesters, which included NCLEX books, Hogan reviews and rationale as well as care plan books. Just get the syllabus and go on craigslist, half.com, or dealoz.com..I got 3 cases of books from someone on craigslist for 20 bucks. The school wants you to buy their books, but most of your material comes from power points and lecture notes. 1 teacher and I wont mention names takes things right out of the book, like boring facts..eg, Florence Nightingale wore what color underwear..just kidding, but a q could be in what war did so n so start using this item...The best books I found and cheap were "fundamentals for Success" n . "testing for success"..find used NCLEX books, care plan books..they always help...ok , good luck

I agree, definitely start reading the book ahead of time. Especially the Fundamentals of Nursing book. The other two classes arent that bad reading wise, but I think we had to read like close to 30 chapters for the first test in Basics. I would offer notes, but I don't take them lol. I'm not all that organized of a student.

haha Kevin...I wonder which teacher you're talking about? Who would make a test like that?

All kidding aside though, it definitely is a lot of work. Don't forget to relax and have fun though because I would have went crazy this first semester if I took everything seriously.

If anyone has any questions feel free to IM me or email me at Kokopelli8885 or sfinn09@gmail.com

Good luck!

For sure if u read the notes the teachers give u will be fine. I only went to the book for clarification. I did read the chapters before semester started because I wanted to know what to expect. Like sfinn said the first test was about 30 chapters!
All of my notes were from webct that the teachers put up I can meet with u in the library one day and print some for u. Email me and we can meet
idimarzio@aol.com
don't let people scare u because it's totally doable and all the bs that u won't have a life and that u should say bye to ur friend and family. It depends on u don't let it become more important than ur family and remeber to have fun!! Playing with those maniquins can be amuzing

Hi, Like Isabella said, don't let people scare you . You have to have fun..I have a great time in class and then you get to meet the MOST FASCINATING PEOPLE ( LIke Iz ) in school and also the pts. in clinical... If don't don't have a sense of humor about it you will go crazy. They tell you 1 think in the beginning schedule time for yourself..if you don't it can become your life . The old adage you get out what you put into it..It is a serious career that should be taken seriously , but that doesn't mean sit home and be a hermit..Some people are competitive, some are not...but when the time comes for a job..will they hire the person who did nothing and had a low gpa or will they hire someone who had a higher gpa, got involved in the community, got recommendations from nurses ( and charge nurses) in clinical, because they were a fun person to be around and knew their stuff. LIFE IS HARD ENOUGH, SO DON'T BE HARD ON YOURSELF...enjoy

I definitely agree...all that they tell you about saying goodbye to your family and all that stuff isn't true. I still go out and still have fun while holding down pretty much a full time job. Relax and have fun with it.

I will surely take all your advice because whom should we take advice from other than those who are in it right? It makes me realize that I might've listened to the wrong people in the past. I admit I am worried starting the semester this january but you guys really put me at ease.

I'm going to make one person from the waiting list happy this semester. I decided to take my offer at a different school so I have to decline my spot. I would've loved to go to Bergen though. Seems like there's a lot of great people who are in the program.
