Triplets

Specialties NICU

I am a new grad who just passed NCLEX. My cousin and his wife recently had triplets 8 weeks early. This week they came home from the hospital. They are doing well... weighing 4.12 - 5.11. The smallest one is still on O2 and an apnea monitor. I have been asked to come sit with them at night and make sure they get their 12, 3 and 6 feedings. They are eating 40-60cc's and are on a schedule. I am worried about being able to feed all 3 so that they stay on schedule.... any suggestions? Anything I need to me looking for? Should I plan to stay awake or plan to sleep and set an alarm? This is my first "job" and I want it to work out.

Thanks for any input...

How long do they take to eat? I'd think about half an hour each so, Do one at 1130, next at 12 and then 1230 the last one.

I'd do the slow feeder last and the good eater first.

Good luck!

Are they all bottle fed or do they have a NG tube?

If they are all bottle fed you just give one after another like dawngloves said.

Be sure not to wake them up until it is their time to feed. Take one at a time and start with changing the diaper and them feed them. They will probably fall asleep during the feeding and then you burp them and put them back to bed and start with the next one.

I would just stay avake, maby take a book to read It is so hard to get up after just one hour of sleep.

Good Luck with the triplets!
