Transition to NICU

  1. Hey! I'm a new grad nurse currently working on a med surg unit! I've known that I wanted to work in the NICU since my senior practicum but wanted to strengthen my basic skills before transitioning into critical care. Does anyone have suggestions on how to begin this transition such as certifications, books, trainings, etc.

Looking forward to hearing yalls advice!

Get 1-2 years experience and then apply. NRP and STABLE certifications will not significantly help you since they will be offered when you are hired.

I dunno, I think it might show your dedication to getting into the NICU and be more likely to be hired...I took NRP as a nursing student and it was hard, but doable. I think it impressed the nurse manager that hired me as a new grad.
