What is your gestational age cut off? Our original protocol was written for 35 weeks and one attending wants to drop it to 34 weeks. The 2 area hospitals by us use 35 weeks and the manufactuer recommends 35 weeks. Just curious.

Our cut off is 36weeks for both head and body cooling. We use the Olympic Cool-Cap System and the Blaketrol III Hyper-Hypothermia System.

36 weeks. 1.8kg or greater, 6hrs old or younger (people gotta jump for that one, we transport all our babies in, no L&D in our hospital). We exclude severe chromosomal defects incompatible w/ life & babies in near death conditions, however we do cool on ecmo if needed and we do total body cooling

36 weeks is my hospital's cutoff and is based off research from other hospitals. There are not sufficient studies to show cooling blankets are safe for those under 36 weeks. It is use at own risk.

I THINK this is ours, too. Not sure about the weight, though.

umcRN, have you had any problems with cooling on ECMO?

What kinds of problems? It's actually easier IMO because you can control temp via the pump. We do it in the NICU as well as the CICU
