How about this one.

Most recently, Nivek. We were all trying to figure out if it was pronounced Ni-vek or Niv-ek and where they came up with this name. I then realized that most likely the dad's name was Kevin. I wanted to bet money on it, but everyone said I was probably right. :uhoh3:

Ok so tonight I didn't feel like studying like I should be so instead I thought I'd look at our hospital's website where there is a virtual nursery and the parents can have their baby's first photo up there if they want. Here is the list of names that were interesting:

boys:

Jakoby

Beckett

Sixto

Desert

Kason

Steel

Madson

Kagan

Holden

Girls:

Charzel (combo of her parents names)

Stormy July (we had an extremely rainy July this year)

Litaly

Uriah

Kaleialoha

Cleveland

Tangerine

Hennessey

Venice

Now back to studying I suppose

I want to "defend" a couple names on that last list ;)

Holden isn't unusual at all. It's not terribly common, but it's a famous name (Catcher in the Rye's main char is named Holden)

And Kaleialoha is an ethnic name that means Beloved Child....I pretty much give a pass to true ethnic names (*paranoid look* because my own children have ethnic names *LOL*)

Uriah is a little weird for a girl, but is a very traditional biblical name.

Not to offend any cultures by saying this, but I love when parents take normal names, and add stuff to them. Like adding La, Ja, Ta, De.... to the beginning of a normal name. Jamario, Desteven...

LilPeanut, I didn't mean those were bad names or anything like that, just names I had never heard myself. I actually think Kaleialoha is a pretty name. It sounds very peaceful and now that you added the meaning I like it even more.

Here's a list of a few of the babies I've met over the years. What amazes me is how well educated, downright likeable, some of these parents were.

1. Leon & Noel (male & female twins, since they are opposites mom spelled Leon backwards for Noel...or maybe, it was Noel for Leon....)

2. Danger S. (the S stand for Sebastian)

3. Lord Atticus Von Dugen

4. Bastian & Atreyu (twins named for "Neverending story" characters)

5. Layaway

6. Egyptain Pyramid

7. Panda

8. Paradyce

9. Trailer

10. Siegel & Saylor (female twins, pronounced Seagull & Sailor)

11. Precious Mahogany

12. Ja'Mes (pronounced Jay-meese)

13. Richard (mom wanted it pronounced Rich-chard)

14. twins Panther (male) & Hunny (female)

15. Grey (interracial marriage, black + white = grey)

16. Cinderella

17. Espn (pronounced Espen...yes, after the sports station. We've actually had TWO babies with this name!)

18. Abcde (several of these a few years ago, pronounced Ab-si-dee)

19. Nevaeh (Heaven backwards)

20. Quads: Maria Isabella, Maria Isanella, Maria Isella, and Felix

Maybe we should all study law so that we can represent some of these kids when they sue for child abuse some day. ;)

Sixto is a fairly common Hispanic name. I wouldn't name my own child that but I've seen it several times.

My best friend didn't know this, and met someone with this name. She promptly stuck out her hand and introduced herself as "four-finger," thinking it was a joke. She'll probably never live it down.

I guess because of where our NICU is we have strange names more than we have "normal" ones! Some recent additions:

Tynir and Tyzir (twin boys)

Jihad (pronounced "jay had")

Sartok

Nasir

It was kinda sad yesterday...I admitted a Daniel and all the nurses had looks of relief when the dad told us the name!

:lol2:
