You have GOT to be kidding me. Pregestimil smells like it wasn't even intended for human consumption. If the kid manages to drink it, they refuse to burp. (Heck, if you managed to choke it down the first time, you wouldn't want to taste it again either!)
A bunch of us on my unit have decided that Pregestimil smells like McDonalds french fries...

I don't know about that...I like french fries. I really doubt that I would like Preg.

    lol

Well I like french fries too... however - the Preg. really does smell like very, very, very, very greasy McDonalds fries...

That's the smell I've been trying to recognize for years. That french fry grease smell would stick to your clothes (I worked there 3 yrs during school).

I never thought that I'd say this, but I'll have to take a closer whiff of Preg next time we have a baby on it. Just to see if you guys are right!

Came on duty tonight in the Level II.

Mom and Dad came in, baby born at 0400 - 20 hours ago. Dad arrived while mom was in labor, directly here from Iraq he got to see his baby son born! He hadn't seen mom since she was about 3 months pregnant...

Totally awesome to watch these two with this baby boy.

Made my heart sing to know this very young man made it back from Iraq AND got to see his son born AND got to see his wife again.

Baby OK and beautiful, just monitoring him.

    That must have been AMAZING!

kangarooing is stripping a baby down to the diaper and placing it on bare skin of the parent's chest. the skin to skin keeps baby warm and allows bonding. cover them all up with blankets and you have kangaroo care.

    ill add to the list:
-kiddos sucking on their ET tube
    -cobedded twins
-a chronic kiddo finally going home and the parents making their rounds to say bye to everyone because everyone knows them and their kid

    hope this helps! =)

As to Pregestimil smelling like fries, I totally think it smells like potatoes!

And when I open the bag from pharmacy with the HAF/lipids in it, it smells like the garden dept @ Wal-mart. Just close your eyes, open the bag and take a whiff!

mmmmm, fertilizer...okay, okay, I've been sniffing HAF for a lot of years now.

Another happy moment happened just yesterday. Our parents of a 24wk son from 16mths ago had a full-term, healthy baby girl. The OB let dad deliver the shoulders and body; what a look on that guy's face when he told us about it.

They will have their hands full, but they wouldn't have it any other way.

Uggggggh. I got IL all over my scrub pants last night and the whole way home on the subway I was like "What is that SMELL?" But then, I love the smell of the ZFlo positioners, so who am I to judge?

Maybe it's me, but seeing babies sucking on their ET tube makes me a little sad. Like they should be sucking on a pacifier or something....I don't know. But your other 2, definitely !

I actually like seeing that because I think it indicates that the baby is able to self-soothe and comfort themselves. That's a good thing IMO. And it's so uniquely NICU!

Oh, I agree that it's good that they are able to self-soothe. It just makes me a little sad. I don't know what about it exactly, maybe just that it should be a pacifier instead of an ETT.
