Our lactation consultant is rarely available. The nurses want to learn to fit and give moms breast shields. Do any of you do this in your NICU? How do teach moms to breast feed? Do you have a lactation consultant who just stays in NICU or do you have to share her with the whole hospital as we do?

  4. We actually have classes we take for breastfeeding. We have 2 lactation girls, but they are in NICU and both nurseries so they are busy. The consultants should be helping you guys with anything you need to learn, and if not, you should talk to your nurse educator or specialist about this.
  5. I wouldn't have a clue. We have to LCs and I think they go to the LD/PP rooms but even though I've done numerous classes on BFing, I still can't do much with a mom that is having a hard time.
  6. We do it all the time. Our IBCLC is not here 24/7, we all take tons of bfding classes, and this is something we are taught to do in inservices.
