Closed system UAC problems..help

I am wondering if any other units have the same issue our unit is having. We use a closed system for our UAC's, and when drawing gases, we have been getting diluted samples, despite drawing back to the syringe. We are now having to draw off an additional "waste" just to get an accurate sample. Just wondering what other units have encountered, and how they have over come them. Also, if anyone "loves" the system they are using, if you could include that in your reply, that would be great....always looking for new products that work great =) Thanks for your time! :nurse:

We use Biosensor and haven't had any problems at all. We draw back our "waste" to the syringe farthest from the baby and use the first port near the baby to draw the sample from, then reinfuse the "waste" back to the baby. We draw back 1ml.

I am not sure the brand name of our set-up...as everyone just calls it an ART line set up, but we attach it to the UAC's.

Ours has this long thin tubing that has a black line and the system has a 10 CC syringe with NS that stays connected. We draw back, little by little, until we see the blood come back and hit the black line...then the blood gas is drawn..thus, an undiluted sample (where we draw is in the middle of the system), then, after it is drawn, the blood is pushed back, little by little with little "pumps", until we see no pink in the line.

If anyone knows the exact name of this..please post :)

I think that's what we use too...don't know the exact name, we call it a "kids kit" with a "pigtail" attachment
