Wondering what your unit did for you on NICU nurses' day?

My unit pretended it didn't happen, unless it was that cake that got devoured by the cleaning ladies on Tuesday. We are busy and understaffed, our hospital is struggling financially so we don't get neat stuff like we used to. I know thank you's from management are free, but I didn't get any of those either.

Oh well...

On the other hand, I get the rewards of being a NICU nurse everyday. I get to go home from work knowing I made a difference in the life of a child. I know that sounds cliche, but it's true. We have a pretty important job. We have the distinction of being trusted with one of the most (if not the most) vulnerable population in nursing.

We are very lucky to do what we do.

Our unit made it a whole week thing. We brought food throughout the week like a potluck. And we also brought in old pictures. A lot of our nurses have worked here for YEARS (some 30+) so they brought in old pictures of each other at work or old work parties to see if people could recognize everybody. It was fun to see how everybody had changed over the years.

There was a nice recognition from the administration and several other units in the hospital, we had some of our equipment set up in a main lobby so people could see what we do on a daily basis, and we had a potluck on both shifts. So...nothing expensive...but rewarding.
