The best neonatal reference, IMHO, is Merenstien and Gardner; New edition came out last spring, check amazon.com.

I went to amazon and searched under "author", typed in merenstein, up came, 'Handbook of Neonatal Intensive Care'. If you search under the subject, neonatal nursing, you will find another book more "nursing" and "care plan" oriented, but it costs a LOT of $$$, merenstein is under $50. BE SURE you get the new one.

IMHO="in my humble opinion". Sometimes folks use it on BB's like this one.

Also, if you look through the NICU forum here, you'll find a lot of terrific info that can answer lots of questions, but if you still need more, we'll give it to you---best of luck. Neonatal nursing is a great specialty.

Handbook of Neonatal Intensive Care by Gerald Merenstein and Sandra Garner

Check out the thread titled Recommended reading for NICU or something like that. It is on the 2nd or 3rd page, but gives a lot of good resources. I have the book "Preeemies" and although it is written for parents it is very easy to understand. I read it when I first started NICU and it also helped me to communicate with thh parents more. It is also listed in that thread. I would post the link to the thread, but I don't know how.

IMHO means In My Humble Opinion

Well, guess premrns and I were posting at the same time!

In addition the the "Handbook" already mentioned (which I Have on my Bookshelf, Great reference!!!)
Another to check out is:
"Core Curriculum for Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing"
by Jane Deacon
This book is in outline format and very easy to get to the information you want...

Another Book I Highly recommend is the
"Neofax 2002" This is our Drug Reference for Neonatal Meds...
(you can find it at neofax.com) or amazon.com

Hope this Helps....
