Kangaroo care policy?

Does anyone have an actual policy written about kangarooing for your unit, and if so, would you be able to share it?

Ps. These people are really working my last nerve! Grr.

Well, do you have a policy for holding babies at all? How about guidlines for what a stable baby is? Maybe this could help define your Kangarooing policy?
And where does someone in Texas get kangaroo meat?????

If you still need to know about KC policy from other units, you can have a look at the thread I have started-Kangaroo Care.

I guess you are brimming with enthusiasm to reshape the condition/future of your unit.Best of luck.

Mira, what you are witnessing are my last ditch efforts to do SOMETHING, make SOME kind of change, before I throw in the towel and quit my job at this facility. Thanks, all of you, for being so helpful. I really appreciate it.

Mira, I'll check out that thread right away. :>)

Kristi: check the NANN website and see if they have any policy statement on it; also do a search for any articles from NeonatalNetwork. The literature may support the concept. ["evidenced-based practice, in the vernacular of the day]

If that doesn't help, you might have to "let it ride" for a while--the place isn't ready for it. From what you've said, they're not ready for much in the way of CHANGE, any way shape or form.

When are you moving?

Looks like 17 months? Hubster's finishing school, so it could POSSIBLY be plus or minus one semester, depending on what pace he goes. I can't wait!! I am so torn between wanting to stick it out and keep trying (rationale: It's ooooonly 17 months...) or move to another hospital while I'm still here (rationale: It's 17 looooong months...). We're one of the largest Level III's in the area, and I almost hate to move down to one of the smaller hospitals, but at the same time, someone mentions something like "Oh, this hospital XYZ does immersion bathing" or "They have such-and-such classes for parents" and I'm drooling like a chubby kid looking at a slice of coconut pie, you know?

However, always the optimist (dang, that's exhausting sometimes!), I am looking at getting some certifications and such while I'm still here in this state, so hopefully I'll be in a better position to affect change when we move. I'm still the low man on the totem pole, and while I can't get NCC certification just yet, there are other things I'm interested in, so hopefully those projects will keep me busy enough to forget that daydream of becoming a kindergarten teacher.
