I am currently bedside nursing in a level III. I have 13 years experience nursing, with the last 7 being in SCN/NICU. I have my BN, and started on my MSN. What I would really like is to be a nurse educator in NICU/SCN. I have teaching experience, being a clinical instructor for a college back home in Canada. Anyone know of any jobs for me, as an educator? I was thinking of Arizona, Hawaii, or somewhere else warm. (I am from Canada, you know!) Right now I'm in California, but I'm not all that happy with my current hospital. Any thoughts, boys and girls?

Unfortunately, much as we need one, our hospital does not hire individual 'educators'- we serve as the educators to our respective parents/family. Though we could certainly benefit from this type of employee...have you considered researching hospitals and writing your own job description? A woman I know here wrote her own job description (she wanted to be a forensic nurse and they didn't have any), presented it to the hospital, sold them on it, and voila- we now have a forensic nurse. Might work for you, too! ;>) Good luck! Perhaps other users will be able to shed more light on this for you.

I think she means NURSE educator. I think there are jobs out there for that, I would look in Neonatal Network, MCN, the other newer Neonatal nursing journal, and/or the Analogous Canadian Journal.

It certainly sounds like you're on the way to being qualified. My hunch is that MSN or Masters in Education would be needed/desired. I wish you every luck in your endeavor. You go, girl!
