I thought it would be neat to start a thread where we can post some of the complemets parents give us when we are taking care of thier little bundles of joy.

Today I had two compliments from two different familys. Doesn't it make you feel good when parents ask if you are going to be the one taking care of their baby the next day. I had a parent ask me if they could request that I be their nurse. That just made my day.

Something I took as a compliment once was when I was soothing a crying pt in an isolette. I was talking to her and giving her a pacifier until she was calm and a mom behind me said to her friend, "She loves the babies so much,she treats them like her own"

One family told me that they knew they could sleep soundly that night knowing I was the one keeping watch over their baby. Another dad came up and shook my hand, thanking me for keeping his baby son safe....

I want to thank you all, as a parent of 2 preemies, for the wonderful and tender care you give. A compliment I gave to my daughter's nurse (daughter is now 2) was that I LOVED how she always brushed my daughter's hair and applied a hand made pink bow every time she was on duty. Daughter had a head full of thick black wavy hair, that was always dressed up with a bow when Carolina was on. I thanked her for caring enough to fix her basinette with the blankets I brought in, and to always dress her in the onesies I supplied. That extra attention to detail shows that you care.

With my son (who is almost 6), I loved how whis nurse carried him around like her own baby. I loved how ALL the nurses really seemed to care about him. Luckily, both of mine were feeder/growers (or something LOL) and NEVER got sick, no complications, no surgeries, home with no meds no machines etc. My son is in 1st grade, and was on honor roll. My daughter is 2 and can count to 17 and recognizes and names numbers when held up, she speaks in sentences and looks like she is 3 yrs old. My son reads at grade leve, and does math ABOVE grade level, and science as well. I really appreciated, also, how BOTH NICUs stressed, hammered home and focused on the importance of BREAST MILK AND BREAST FEEDING. The Rns would call me at home, like we were co-conspirators and say "mooooommmm, your little one has only 2 bottles left of your milk..." and would always call me so I could show up to either breast feed or bring pumped milk before I went to work.

I love NICU nurses and doctors!! You guys have one of theeee toughest jobs, in my opinion. Emotionally draining, but when it rewards, BOY DOES it reward! I am in nursing, and hope to finish my RN degree and of course---go work in NICU where I feel some of the hardest, most trying yet rewarding work is done.
