Thumbs up Re: Member Suggestions Wanted for Article contest
In the good old USA we have many people that are not covered with health insurance. I would like to see an artical regarding how do nurses feel about health care coverage for all and how do we go about it. If we do not pool our resources together soon we again will be dicatated by governement and the insurance companies. Nursing input is important. The mention of health care for all makes me a bit nervous as coverage can mean anything from high deductibles to only catastrophic. This is a good topic for those that work in socialized medicinie to share with us how your system works both pros and cons. That in itself is another article. I went to a nursing school on the south side of Chicago were there were people who couldnt afford to heat their houses. We had kids walk into the ER and just wanted food. We never turned anyone down and treated all. The hospital is still in business and now has health mobile going around the neighborhood performing well child exams and giving immunzations, doing paps etc. That is my suggestion regarding article or articles.

This would be a good article based on hard facts, IMO. There are many who don't have health insurance by choice; my own son being one of them at a time in his life in his early 20s. And some church people who don't believe in it, who pay out of pocket.

How about an article on Who your nursing role model is and why?

IE

Mother/other family member, kind nurse you had in the past, etc.

I think that the topic for articles should be; How political correctness is subverting patient contact and empathy.

Brian,
I'd like to see articles based on some allnurses.com polls. I love polls!

examples:
1. professional titles of allnurses.com members by %
2. how members found their current jobs (didn't I see a poll like this here?)
3. degree of job satisfaction and/or main issues

by the way....LOVE your site.

Now, back to my job hunting.

I think that we should have a contest for the most heroic nurse or the most touching story. Possibly a Christmas story contest too. It would be great if we could do these!

It would be nice to see an article on " What it takes to be a nurse or Why a person goes into nursing. " I heard someone on the bus say she has a degree in archelogy and is unable to land a job using her degree. She said she is going to into nursing so she can get a job. I was discouraged as I wouldnt want someone taking care of a patient just so she or he could have a job. It takes much more than wanting a job to be a nurse. Maybe I am being unrealistic in todays job market we do what we can to survive.

Maybe something along the lines of "How has being a nurse benefitted your life" or "Stories of the most exceptional shift you worked"? Something generic enough that every nurse can share, regardless of specialty or geographic location. And, with all the negativity that seems to be out there, something so we can focus on the positives for a change?
