Thanks Brian. It will be interesting to see how it goes.

I'll ask before someone else does.

Is there going to be a "Female Nurses Forum"?

I knew that would be asked

Well in the past several years, I have never had a request for a female forum, but we have had at least 40 or 50 request for a male nursing forum. I am not opposed to having a female forum at all, I just don't think that there is much demand for it? But maybe now there will be interest for one??

I don't think that this needs to be a divisise thing or looked at in the eyes of dividing the nursing community, I think that with all the request by male nurses for this forum, there must be issues that, as the minority sex in the field of nursing, feel they would like to discuss?? So, if the forum remains professional and on topic, I can only see positive things coming from having an open forum where men can voice their comments. Just my

Of course you can peek, this is not a male only forum, just the topics discussed should be on topic of issues of men in nursing I really don't care who post comments in the forum, male or female, as long as they are on topic and not against the Terms of Service.

I think it's a great idea for the guys! I might have to go take a peek too on occasion.

Default male nurses
I think it's a great idea to have male nurses. I don't think nursing should be a sexist thing. The only thing that does bother me about guys becoming nurses is that I've heard that some schools will actually choose guys before girls to be excepted into their programs just b/c their are more female nurses and they want more males. Males and females should get an equal chance to be excepted reguardless of gender.

I don't think any male nurse wants to progress his career based solely on his sex. I want to be seen with the right skills, temperment and care for my patients.

Schools should accept students based solely upon their merits. Ushering males in to fill quotas does nothing to improve the quality of nurses in the field. That said, schools do have an obligation to utilize the best evidence as it pertains to gender appropriate practices. There is a growing body of research that demonstrates that males have a different experience in nursing programs than do female students and that this may negatively impact the retention rate of male students. The traditional tailoring of programs toward women fails to address the needs of male students. In addition, the absence of male faculty members in many programs leaves male students without role models in the school setting.

Reminds me of an old peanuts cartoon that had one of the characters commenting on the existence of Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Grandparents Day and the like, but no "Childrens Day." Someone remarked about every day being childrens day.

And every day on allnurses is an estrogen parade .
