Will a DWI effect my nursing career?
- 0Feb 3, '08 by TormanderAbout 3 years ago I received a DWI in long Island and i deeply regret it for doing such a thing. I was young and stupid. Right now I am planning to do a career change to nursing and currently working on the prerequisites for the nursing program.
I just found out that requiring a nursing license will require to answer a yes/no answer if I was ever arrested for a misdemeanor(DWI). Since I need to answer yes I want to know how much it will effect me of getting a nursing license?
Should I even bother pursuing a nursing career? Is there anything I should do now to get a better chance of getting a license? Any advice and things to expect will be greatly appreciated.

Whether or not you might be, will be or should be granted a license to practice nursing is completely up to your state BON (Board of Nursing). Your best bet is to contact them directly.
Good luck to you.
