What is it like to work at Interfaith Medical Center?

I have been a nurse for almost two years and I am still struggling to get a FT job which is my goal. I did homecare for a little bit until the company went out of business. I currently work on a prn basis in an inpatient med-surg floor but often get cancelled. I have applied to so many FT positions without any luck. Just recently I got offered to interview with Interfaith Medical Center. Although I am originally from NYC I am not very familiar with this area. I hear they are having financial difficulties and might or might not close or even possibly merge with another hospital. My main concern is safety, I hear Bed-Stuyvesant is a dangerous area. Any information will be appreciated as I will not want to miss an opportunity.

back in May, Interfaith was in danger of closing. If they are hiring, then that's a good sign. Make sure they are stable financially though because if lay offs happen , the newest hires are let go first.

In terms of safety, just stay off deserted dark streets. If you take bus or subway, walk to it on well lit, populated street. If not possible, then perhaps you can walk with a coworker or have a coworker drop you off at a safer bus stop/subway station. Also dont have any phone or ipods on display or earphones in you ears while outside. Look alert at all times so you are not a target. Also i work in a hospital thats in a not safe area and i wear regular clothes to and from work and change into my uniform once i arrive on the unit. People are more likely to assume you have money if you are wearing scrubs as it is sign of working in a hospital. If you wear street clothes, you blend in with everyone else.
