Anyone have any infoon how their new nurse orientation is? Or any info at all about the hospital? Thanks

Moochini, thank you yea I got the call the end of November.. I'm going to be at the Wakefield branch. Which location are you working?

Technofreak,Congrats on the job! When I meet with HR she gave me a form with all my appointments for OSHA,physical and orientation. That one form had all the dates and locations. If you don't have it call your HR rep.

Thanks for the info. I will be emailing the recruiter tomorrow. I only received info on the physical and nothing else. Also, can you please elaborate on the "OSHA" requirement. Does that entail watching a video or something? I'm assuming you have everything since you were hired in November? I was hired about two weeks ago.

We watched two videos and did a fit test for the N-95 mask. It was about 1 hour. At the end they have us two certificate that we have to give to nurse manager. I think your HR rep will give you rest of paperwork after you turn in paperwork from physical. I wouldn't worry about the OSHA training because they have so many classes each day.

Thank you NW!

NW, Are you sure you are at Westchester Medical Center located in Valhalla, NY? Because after googling it, it seems to be a part of Montefiore, which is in the Bronx. The only branches of WMC are the main tower, Taylor Pavilion, the Behavioral Center, and the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital.

Also, your hiring process sounds a bit different than what mine was like, which wasn't that long ago. I didn't watch a video for the N-95 mask fitting. In fact, I don't believe there is any way to watch a video in the health office in the Taylor Pavilion.

Technofreak,

I am happy with how the hospital is so far. My floor is a bit hectic, lol. I am actually still on orientation. Depending on where you are going, orientation is 12 weeks and up. I know in the different specialties, they tack on so many more classes that are a part of your training.

I am sure you received all the info you needed from the HR office, and you probably had your first day of orientation on the 6th of this month, right? =)

Hey,I'm at the Moses division. I started orientation on Monday. We watches videos on infection control and did the fit test after.
Thank you NW!
Technofreak,You're welcome! How's orientation so far?

NW,

it's just as I thought... You are at Montefiore, not Westchester Medical Center. They are 2 distinct hospitals. Montefiore is in the Bronx. Westchester Medical Center is in Westchester County, and the hospital is located in Valhalla.

Westchester medical, sound shore medical and mount Vernon medical is all under monti now

I have a question about the hiring process at Westchester Medical. I am currently an RN at another hospital in the city. In reference to the background check, was that done first before you were hired for a position or do they offer you the position first, you accept it and then start doing all paperwork? I had a previous back ground issue and would hate to be leave where I am now if I am offered a position only to be into the paperwork process and be told by HR my background failed. With my currently employer, I did not begin the orientation process until after the background was done and then I was offered to come on board.
