Waiting....

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hey everyone.....yes..it is that time of year again...all of us pre-nursing students are waiting for the acceptance letter..!!!!:uhoh21: I see that some has already gotten the letter!! Congrats!!:balloons: As for me, i am still waiting for NYU, LIU, CUNY and possibly Beth Israel....I have a question for you nursing students out there that goes to CUNY now and i hope you guys can help me out as you know the waiting is a torture!!:uhoh3:

For CUNY school....when do they send you letters to tell you whether you are accepted or not for the coming Fall semester (06') ?? some said the end of april yet some tells me not until June or the end of this semester (spring 06') that they will start sending them letters out...i really need to know because if CUNY doesn't accept me, i'll have to reply to other school asap to reserve....

So far i've gotten Adelphi's acceptance's letter and they want an answer by the end of April if i read them correctly? but i still want to try to get into CUNY (on a buget) if i can but yet afraid that if CUNY doesn't accept me by April or June and then i won't have time to reply to other school..

Sorry this is long and hopefully some of ya will be able to give me some answers!! thanks!!!

To nurseyoon,

I am still waiting for NYU's letter also and nope i have not heard from them not even once since i started applying; never gotten any emails (except the comfirmation emails during my online application), letters, brochures, flyers, from them, never; i mean i get at least something from other schools that i had also applied to eventho it is not of anything imporant at least i know iam on their computer system...... i was worrying about it so i actually called NYU back in mid-march to check on my application status to see if there's anything i've missed to send them, a girl transfered me to the nursing department but the answer machine picked up and i had to leave them a message, which of cuz, no one ever reply back.:uhoh3: i am planning to call them tomorrow for the second time and let see if i have to "leave a message" again:uhoh21: i guess all we can do is to wait and good luck to you!!!

To sammi15,

i am glad to hear someone from NYU replied!! so does that mean we won't be able to hear from them until beginning of may? is it normal that i've never receive anything from them like i mentioned above? after the first time calling i was a bit held back to call them again because i was expecting them to call me back (and you'd be suprised why i think that because even CUNY calls me back when i leave them a message) but they never did....i was kind of disappointed but it has been a month so i was thinking to call them again tomorrow...

and if you dun mind me asking, how did you support the big tuition from NYU? i heard that their finanical package is not that good and i am worrying about the tuition and whether if i am allowed to take such a big loan out for only 15 months..... do you think it's worth it so far? thanks for replying and take care!

Hello,

Sorry to tell you this but NYU will not send you anything until they accepted you. After acceptance, they'll send you all the required information and an invitation to their orientation in mid-June. Last year during my orientation, the dean of nursing told us they recieved few thousand applications and it took them awhile to select the right students. So be patience, they should response by beginning of May. NYU's a friendly school, you can always call the admission office to check on your application status.

Yes, NYU's tuition does cost a lot (approx. $16,000 per semester not including books, health ins., and other supplies) but I think it's worth it at the end. My tuition $$ is covers by federal loan, nursing loan, and personal saving. I'm lucky to have very supportive family that will help me if I ask (they're very generous). I believe if you really want to do this....you should go for it and not to be too focus on the $$ issue. Your salary in the future will be enough to pay back the loans in short period of time. Already, I spent over $32,000 for two semester and I don't regret it at all.

I hope my insight has help you!

Good luck with your nursing career!

Sammi

Hello Sammi,

thank you very much for your insights regarding NYU's tuitions;) ! Right now I am seriously considering to go into the accelerated program of NYU (if they accepted me that is:uhoh21: ), before, I really had second thoughts because of the big tuition since i dun have any personal savings, and for personal reasons i really dun want to ask my family for money, so i would have to take out big, i mean BIG loans and that's what worries me....i have questions in my minds that i ask myself; what if i dun make it thru the accelerated program and got kick out? how am i going to repay for the loans that i've already taken out? yes i really want to go for nursing but i've also got to consider the consequences incase i do not make it:o . So I've also applied to CUNYs but to think abt it i really would like to get my BSN in 15 months instead of spending 2 years....(actually i am still thinking...):stone

For the reasons above, I hope you can answer some more questions regarding NYU's accelerated program if you dun mind...

1)Do you think it's hard to pass the classes in NYU (i believe they said you have to maintain above b-) the reason i asked is because i know that in CUNY nursing school, passing is C- in a class and everyone in the program told me that most ppl gets B- or C+ and only some gets B n B+....:imbar

In another words do you think private school is easier than CUNYs? (i hope i did not offended u in any ways b/c that's what everyone saids.. )

2)they said that in CUNY school they prepare you better then in some privates (i know, no school will ever prepare anyone well for the real world, but..), i wanted to know if you think NYU gives you enough clinical hours to enrich your skills? I am hoping that they will concentrate more on clinicals...not that i dun like the classes but out in the real world i think it's the skills that takes up the big part....right?

3)What is the passing rates? (in CUNY's they said abt 40 gets in the program, and only 9-15 ppl get to make it to the end) and if you already know this, what is their NCLEX passing rates? (in LaGuardia it's 100% they said...)

I have sooo much more questions i wanted to ask but i really dun want to take up any of your time since i know that you would rather devote that into your studies...

THANKS!!!!

P.S. I called NYU once again.....they transfered me a couple of times and I end up talking to the answer machine...again....i didn't even bother leave them a message this time...does this happen to anyone of you out there that is also applying to NYU??

To med assis,

I am currently attending LaGuardia and the chance of getting into their nursing program is not high...i am sorry i am not trying to scare you or anything but their cut-off GPA for last term was about 3.75.... :uhoh21: i didn't put too much of my hope of getting into this school, but again, it depends on the applicant pool...if no one has 4.0 this year then i guess my chance of getting in will increase....

Actually I heard that City Tech's cut-off was 3.25, MUCH lower but i really dun want to go to that school (just my personal view - not to offend ppl attending there) and not sure about other CUNYs....

Hope i answered you questions and GOOD LUCKK!!!:wink2:

sammi,

Hello everyone,:balloons: its is refreshing to learn im not the only one struggling to get into nursing school. The past couple of weeks has been extremely stressfull for me. I made the biggest mistake by only applying to LICHSON, I recently learned that they lost my application. I've called several times only to get the run around over and over again, Finally i was told that my application was found but when I asked the director where did my two refrences come from she told me that she was not in a position to tell me. (but she told me a minute ago she was looking through my application)

At this point i feel really discourage, im considering another career and maybe persuing nursing another time in my life.

Drizzle, which LIU did you apply to? The one in Brooklyn or Long Island? I was in LIU- Brooklyn campus' nursing program and I would NOT recommend it!!! A teacher there told me that the school was struggling to keep it's licensure because they have such a poor program and such a low passing rate!!! I was shocked! Then, the advisors don't tell you anything and they seem to not care. That school was HORRIBLE! They told me when I applied that I would be starting the nursing program in the Spring (knowing that I was in the evening program) then when it came time to register for the Spring semester they told me I could not start until the Fall because the evening program only starts in the fall!!! NOWHERE AT ALL does it say that the evening program must start in the fall! I immediately applied to another school (Nassau Community College) because I was so pissed at LIU! They made me waste an entire 8 months...

I just got my acceptance letter at Nassau Community College and I heard they have a really good nursing program. The experience alone so far has been 100% better than my experience with LIU.

I'm just posting this to give everyone a heads up about LIU.... I'm not sure if this is both campuses but definitely the Brooklyn campus. They have a very low passing rate for the NCLEX and are very disorganized.

Hello,

Don't be discourage, it's okay to make mistake as long as you learn from it. Don't give up nursing if that what you really want to do. If you cannot make it to the Fall's semester, there is always the spring semester and it's not that far away. Next time, try to apply to as many schools as you can. Also, check with different nursing schools to see if they will extent their deadline. I know some schools are very flexible to your situation. So, call as many schools as you can and ASK!

Don't give-up and best of luck with your nursing career!

Thank you Sammi, for your kind words, I've been giving great thought to my situation and I have not made a decision as of yet. I realized that nursing is very competitive and one of the main reasons i didnt apply to alot of schools is because I dont have such a great GPA, which is strongly needed to enter nursing. As of right now, im considering another career, or entering a school to solely raise my GPA or apply to an LPN program.

I didnt apply to LIU, I applied to Long Island College School of nursing, however, i've heard alot of horrible things about liu Brooklyn campus. When I visited the campus, I seen some of my old classmates from BMCC and they all begged me not to go there. After I met the nursing advisor, Latisha, she was rude and abrubt I decided I didnt want to be at a school like that. Good luck to you, at Nassua Community college.

Oh, sorry... lol. But you are definitely right about the nursing advisor... And no matter how many messages you leave begging for them to call you back, they never do! That school is horrible for the nursing program. Latisha told me I would be starting the nursing program in the spring of 06 and when I went to register the other advisor told me I had to wait until Fall of 06- But everything happens for a reason because that was what made me apply to Nassau- which is now much cheaper and a much better program!

Good Luck with Long Island College!!!
