Wagner College 2011

U.S.A. New York

Published

I'm a traditional transfer student who applied to Wagner for 2011. I saw on this board that some people had interviews. Were you guys all in the accelerated? Has anyone received an acceptance or rejection? Does anyone know when we will hear???

Hello,

I will be applying for the September 2012 start date and I was just curious as to what the schedule is like. Mon-Fri 9-5 type schedule? Are there classes on weekends?

Also, you don't have to take the TEAS before you apply? I don't understand how you can be accepted without the school even having your scores. What is the point in taking the exam then?

Any advice on the application process would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

no potentially libelous information about specific schools, instructors, or health care facilities/entities should be posted in these forums. while it is important to be able to network, everyone should be mindful of the following:

1. it is a small world - when we narrow it down to a state and throw in some personal info, there is actually a pretty good chance someone may recognize you if you are not careful. your privacy is paramount to us.

honey, especially on staten island! :D

i grew up there and ought to know!

Just had my interview today 5/24/12 for the accelerated BSN at Wagner. I was informed that I am "condtionally admitted" which I assume means, if I complete the required conditions then I will be actually admitted.

The conditions where to take anatomy and phys 2 and nutrition. Anatomy and phy 2 I am already signed up for summer session 2 but they want in summer session 1. Problem is summer session 1 has already started for most colleges in my area and I can't regsiter for summer 1 anymore. Tommrow I wil check with Rutgers, if they allow me to regsiter for summer session 1 then is all good, if not I have no choice but to take it during summer session 2. I know they don't want me to take it during summer 2 but if 1 is all full, what can i do? Nutrition I was told to take online-university of phenoix no problems, though Phenoix does cost a bit...

If anyone in NJ who is planning to go to Wagner, know that they don't look to kindly upon Essex county college. I took anatomy and phys 1 at essex county and they where not too happy about that, at least the person who interviewed me. According to them a "B" at essex county is really a "C". Funny thing is the anatomy and phys 2 which I am taking during summer session 2 is also at Essex county college... I don't know if Essex is nessciarly a deal breaker but they don't like it-that it as you will...

Has anyone else been conditonially admitted before? And where you actually admitted in the end or is "conditionally admitted" some sort of false hope they tell everyone?

Hello, I got accepted for the fall 2012 accelerated nursing program at Wagner. I already have loans (40K) from my undergrad studies and am happy to finally start nursing school but I'm just concerned about having so much financial debt in the end. Wagner was the only school I got into and I'm not sure if I should apply to other state or city schools in NY which will take longer or just go to Wagner and get my nursing degree. Any thoughts or advice are appreciates. Thanks.

i am assuming most 4 year programs, accelerated BSN programs will cost realtive to what wagner is charging. The only way to go cheaper is to get accepeted into a community college program.

Wagner like most other private colleges/universities charge vastly more than CUNY or SUNY colleges, even for BSN, ABSN and MSN/pHd degrees. Hunter for instance comes out to about $5,200 per semester for tuition and fees, see: http://www.hunter.cuny.edu/bursar/repository/files/Tuition%20and%20Fee%20Charge%20Table%209-09.pdf

Which is why all CUNY and SUNY programs have huge applicant pools and long wait lists. IIRC the head of the City University of New York system once made a public brag that CUNY nursing programs produce a very large majority of NYC graduates each year.

On the downside IIRC only Hunter and one other CUNY college offer BSN degrees and of the ABSN think that falls to the former as well (not sure). So it is really competitive out there. Really is a shame City University shut their nursing program down years ago. Maybe it's time someone take another look at that idea.

Of course going to a private school like Wagner or NYU can offer things that often cash strapped CUNY or SUNY programs cannot, but we're not on that right now.

Given all the recent noise regarding student loans you are wise to consider your options when already carrying so much debt. There are undergraduate as well as ABSN nurses who took out loans and or piled on more because they bought into the whole "nursing shortage" mania and assumed they would land a high paying gig upon graduation. That hasn't always worked out and in mean time unless other arrangements are made they have to pay that note or notes every month.

If you do decided to enter Wagner one assumes you will choose to put your loans into "educational deferrement" as you have re-entered school full time. If at all possible I'd try to at least make the interest payments (if the option is available) while in school. Otherwise depending upon your interest rates you will be looking at a decent sum that will either have to be paid upon finishing Wagner, or rolled into the principal.

Make sure you sit down with Wagner's financial aid department and explore any and all options for grants or other types of aid aside from loans.

ah good point, it escaped me that wagner is a private university as opposed to public lets say Rutgers, and of course being private the tution is much more.

NP, no worries.

Wagner is a great college with a wonderful campus (I was born and raised on SI, and know the area well), however if one is simply seeking a "no frills" nursing degree I'd head for a CUNY or SUNY program is possible.

Quite honestly my standard advice was then and still is what really matters is a program's board passing rate. Though would add today also look at the amount of students admitted to a class versus the number who graduate/take the NCLEX.

My worry about Staten Island nursing grads is that since NS-LIJ owns to of the major hospitals and they have annouced a preference for BSN grads in future, what happens to CSI grads (AAS).

Thanks for the feedback! I am considering other schools. After some heavy thinking, Wagner is way too expensive and I will end up having to pay back loans in the amounts as some med school gradduates :-/

I am new on here did you say that you got accepted for the program for fall 2012? And is deferring

Well im still going back and forth on whether to attend wagner in august. I was considering applying to NYU's accelerated program but I need to take a chemistry class and lifespan psych class and then apply and see if get in. My main concern is commuting as I live in queens, not sure if I want to spend more money on dorms or commute by public transportation. Any thoughts??
