Upstate Jobs

U.S.A. New York

Anyone know of places upstate that are hiring new grads? I'm currently in NYC and looking to get out of this crazy area. I'm not originally from New York and not familiar with any of the cities upstate. What can you tell me? I'd love to get on at a hospital that has friendly people and good training. Thanks for any information.

Buffalo New York has a large and rapidly growing medical corridor in the heart of the city. Check out Buffalo General, Gates Vascular Institute and the soon to be built new Women's and Children's Hospital. Great city with a lot of new development going on--low cost of living, friendly people, good food and nightlife. Check out the popular Elmwood village or the new canal side along Lake Erie. I currently live in Connecticut and wish I could move back :( Rochester is another good city, Strong Memorial or Rochester General are popular hospitals.

I know St. Peter's in Albany is hiring as well as other hospitals in the area such as Saratoga Springs (a classmate of mine was hired within weeks at Saratoga). I've heard hospitals in the Syracuse area are also hiring. Basset in Cooperstown as well. I'd say check out the Utica area, but to my knowledge, pay is super low and I heard the hospitals aren't that great -- everyone recommended Basset to me, though.

I second Buffalo. I transferred to a school in Buffalo to finish my degree and there are jobs here. There are a lot of different hospitals here and each one is known for being great in different specialties. I.e. ECMC for Trauma and Psych, Buffalo General for Cardiac/Vascular, etc. Pay is a lot lower than what you would see in NYC, but cost of living is MUCH lower. Really doesn't even compare (and as a former NYC resident I do know this for a fact, lol). Buffalo itself is really up and coming. Since I moved here there has been a tremendous increase in things to do- bars, restaurants, cultural things, public areas (like canalside- Canalside Buffalo). It's obviously very different from NYC and took a little getting used to, but it's really not a bad place to be. I'm still a student too, graduating in May, but if you have any questions about specific hospitals in Buffalo feel free to shoot me a message and I can try to help you out.

I just graduated and Im wondering if this is srill true? I live in NYC and relocating upstate is an option for me. Are the hospitals still hiring new grads??

I live in the Syracuse area. Several of the hospitals have job postings for RNs. Nice area, close to Albany, Rochester, Buffalo, PA, NYC, etc.

I'm from the Buffalo area. Have worked at a hospital in the medical campus downtown, also worked in an outpatient setting, and now work in a small rural hospital just outside of Buffalo. There is a lot of jobs posted here. Also a lot of nursing schools pumping out new grads all the time, so sometimes jobs are more competitive. Pay is lower than a lot of places, but is certainly okay for the cost of living here. In my opinion, we have pretty nice people, great food, and lots of up and coming improvements to the city and surrounding areas.

Naptime, when tou say low...how low???
