University of Rochester Accelerated Nursing Program - ABPNN

U.S.A. New York

I just got accepted into U of R's accelerated bachelors nursing program. Just wanted to start a thread to see who else is going there!

Then there must be some other dude. I'm not renting from Neyda. Still making arrangements at an apartment :Elmwood Court. Tried the University Apts, but no vacancy, just a long waiting list. Anyways, just waiting for the financial aid package. Really not quite settled on attending. Might still change my mind as I'm not completely sold yet on the school administration. Waiting to hear from an alumni as to how students are treated. It's a lot of money to be paid for what I consider 'not so good' management of student issues.

Where else would you go?? And why was it so bad?

Thanks for the heads up on filing the 2007/2008 fafsa. I really think they should have told everyone to do that in the first place. Now that I have that out of the way I called the financial aid office and they basically told me that I should go ahead and apply for any private loans I'll need. If I knew I could have applied for them at any time, I would have a long time ago. Sheesh...

Anyway, thanks for all the helpful tips!

From what I got from talking to them is their scholarship money got allocated really late for the year and everything just got pushed back. That being said they assured me that I will have plenty of time to apply for loans. I started looking into that already. And as far as disorganization I have seen much worse, at least here they reply to your emails and phone calls within the same day.

Hi, I will be attending UR in May too. Has everyone find a place yet? what is a good area to live. Thanks!

is the tuition $16,664? I guess that's considered expensive compared to nursing school tuition at community colleges, but what about other colleges?

Henrieta is the area where the school is at. There is also RIT which is close by so I am sure there is tons of housing over there. You can also look into other areas. I will be living in greece, its only 20 min by car from the school. It just depends what you like and find.

You can't really go bad with anywhere around the U of R. A lot of students from both U of R and RIT live throughout the neighborhood so its safe and friendly. Hopefully you found something :)

Hey, so I just arrived in town from Seattle. Boy, that was a long drive! Now all I have to do is find an apartment. So far I looked at a couple advertised on craigslist and quickly realized that when they say "one bedroom/studio" it means you better not be claustrophobic. It looks like tomorrow will be a long day of apartment hunting for me!

Ken, you won't be the only guy in the class. Has anyone heard an update from Paul on the "social" Tuesday/Wednesday before classes start? And was anyone besides myself planning on going?

Hi and congratulations to everyone who has been accepted. I recently contacted UoR to inquire as to why they allow the prereqs to be taken online (A&P, Micro etc) without a lab. They said it's just how they do it. I honestly don't understand that. I have researched a zillion schools and they all say a lab is required. Some even make a point of stating that an online science class would not be accepted. In any case it's very attractive to me that I can take prereqs online. Do you know of any other schools that allow this also?

Also, for those of you who have been accepted, do you mind telling me a little about your scholastic history i.e. gpa, previous coursework taken etc. I called and they stated the Jan 2010 class was extremely selective as it will be their first January class and they want it small. She pretty much shut me down there implying that I wouldn't get in.... My GPA is 3.65. Do they only want the 4.0 or better? Just wondering.

hello!

I'm really interested in Rochester's accelerated program. I am considering applying for January 2010. I was wondering if any accepted students could provide me with some of their credentials. I'm wondering if I have a shot of getting in. I have a 3.96 cumulative GPA for my undergraduate degree (psych), almost 2 years of experience in a hospital. I'm currently completing pre-requisite sciences this summer, but so far I have an A in microbioloy and an A in anatomy I. ANY HELP would be tremendously appreciated!! Thanks so muchh

*PM me if you would like to share info that way Thanks again

I forgot to mention. I have my LPN and have worked as a LPN at a hospital in Wisconsin for a while. I want to get my RN now, so was told an accelerated program would be the best.

Also, my undergrad work was from about 5 years ago.. does that matter? The only pre-req class left to take is atanomy 2 and chemistry, which i'm taking at community college here in wisconsin.

Also are there any guys in the problem? I'm a male career-changer.

Thanks again
