University of Rochester Accelerated Nursing Program - ABPNN

U.S.A. New York

Published

I just got accepted into U of R's accelerated bachelors nursing program. Just wanted to start a thread to see who else is going there!

Maybe we should make a facebook group specifically for our class? It might make communicating and planning easier!

I would love this! Can you let us know how to find it? Thanks!!

anyone starting in the fall from the Bay Area, CA?

Starghadeer, I'm moving from SF. Starting in May though, not the fall. Where in the Bay Area are you coming from?

starghadeer and malapata,

i'm coming from SF as well. it sounds like there are lots of west coasters! we can all suffer through winter together!

:)

Xtina, Hooray! I'm glad there are some SFers out there. I wonder if some of us were in pre-req classes together at CCSF! :) I like Nick06's idea of starting our own facebook page...maybe we can all start getting to know each other a little more that way.

so we know that at least 3 SFers are going! what're you guys doing about housing situations? are you bringing your cars?

Hey everyone...

I noticed everyone being really interested in starting a facebook page. I've been looking around to see if anyone had made one yet and couldn't find anything so I made one! The title of the group is "University of Rochester School of Nursing May2010-2011"

The group is open to everyone at the moment so feel free to hop on and join! It'll be really nice to start chatting and getting to know everyone before we even start classes. If someone did manage to make a group and I just didn't find it I'm sorry and know that I won't be offended if we use one vs another or none of them at all.

Good luck to everyone soldifying their plans before May! :)

Thanks, noChipEMT!

Starhgadeer, I'm going to have to buy a car. Not sure if I'll do it before or after getting to Rochester. I'm going out next week/end to find an apartment. How about you?

Yes thank you noCHIPEMT! I will get on and join tomorrow. So anyone who is interested in talking about housing with me feel free to contact me... Lindsay Tolley. Also, as I mentioned before, although I am coming from LA I grew up in Rochester so if anyone has questions about the area I would be glad to help so don't hesitate to ask! This whole process of moving and starting school is very overwhelming and I am from the area. I can't even imagine how those of you not familiar with the area are doing it. I am ready to just get there and get started!

Hi Aayla123, Congratulations on having just three weeks to go...! If you're not too busy, I do have some questions for you :)

Are you going on to the Masters program after you finish up your BSN? Do you think you'll work at one of the hospitals at UR (Strong, Highland...)? If not, where do you plan on going? How has your experience been overall, what did you like/dislike? What is the #1 word of advice you'd give to an incoming APNN student?

Thanks in advance and good luck!

I definitely do want to pursue a Masters degree. When I came into the program I was 100% set on trying to become a Nurse Anesthetist, but I find myself second guessing that already because I realized a lot of interests of mine. I am currently in the process of shadowing different units however there are many classmates of mine who already have job offers from Strong, Rochester General, and Highland (they started the shadowing process very early). I'm not too keen on staying in Rochester (I've lived in upstate NY my whole life so I'm ready for something different. Many outside area hospitals are hesitant to hire Graduate Nurses who aren't affiliated with their schools, so I will be looking hardcore for jobs elsewhere once I pass the NCLEX and have an RN.

I think my experience has been good, I am so very happy that this program is only one year long. But when I look back on it ALL, if I had to do it all over again I would have rather stayed at my first college and done the traditional 2-year route. It's just my personal preference. If I need to give you one great big huge gigantic piece of advice it would be to manage your time extremely well. If you can master the art of organizing yourself, you will be fine and less stressed than your other classmates. If you have anymore questions you can private msg me, Id be happy to answer!

Someone also asked me where I'm doing my capstone, I was really fortunate to get my first choice pick, the Neonatal ICU. I'm pretty excited for 12-hour night shifts - woo woo!
