Never heard of Union county but I am going to look it Thanks Good luck to you

Hi there! I just wanted my throw two cents in since I recently got accepted to Swedish Institute also. Classes start in a month and I'm so excited! Like others have described so far, the process is very whirlwind. Being a college graduate of a CUNY school, however, I appreciate that the admissions counselor worked closely with me to get my materials ready for submission. Within just 2-3 weeks, I took the NLN and passed it (with only a week to study :nailbiting:), interviewed with the Dean, and got most of my materials in for review. I also appreciated that they had a Financial aid counselor help me through understanding how to budget my money while in school. Additionally, I researched this school also and found several sources that stated the college was accredited.

Awesome side note: They seem to have a nice, stable support system available on campus (at least that what it seems like). You also can get a free personal training session from the students and I think massage also since they were initially just a massage therapy school.

Hi Whealer, how is your experience so far with your first semester now that it was done? I believe you had anp and 3 other non nursing classes. Was it that difficult to get an 80? I just passed the first step of the process. Passed the nln entrance and now I have to meet the dean. I had a question, I was wondering how the grading per semester was. Was it objective or subjective grading? Is participation, out of class assignments, etc included with the tests to get that 80? Or do you have to average over an 80 with all the exams first and only then everything else will be added?

Like you I had a real good experience so far. My admissions director was great and up front. People seem very nice.

Thank you for your time. :)

Hey there! Sorry I should have been clear. My first semester starts next Month so I haven't completed it just yet. I graduated from John Jay last December in Forensic Psychology; John Jay is a CUNY school and I felt like I was a number among many compared to my admissions process at the Swedish Institute.

Hey! Maybe we'll be in the same semester together! :woot:

I can tell you about the interview process...

-Have some familiarity with the present and future trends of healthcare and nursing. The Dean asked me about that. I think Obamacare was discussed also.

-The Dean will also ask about your experience with patient care. She focused less on the technical aspects of nursing (i.e. phlebotomy, health assessment, anatomy) and more so on bathing and cleaning the patient. I appreciated this since the nursing program is supposed to focus on holistic care. If you don't have any experience (I had some volunteer work at an elderly care center mixed in with personal family experience) then I suggest volunteering and becoming more well-versed with that aspect of nursing care.

-Remember it's the Swedish Institute College of Health Services. I called it by its former name once.

The remaining questions were why I had picked their nursing program over others as well as why I wanted to be a nurse. We went over my transfer credits from my previous colleges, how I will balance work with school, what type of support system I will have during school and my personal statement. Once the interview is done, then you wait downstairs and your admissions counselor will let you know what the Dean thinks.

In the meantime, if you haven't already, fill out the application form and start working on the personal statement. It's one page about why you want to be a nurse. Of course, whatever your admissions counselor advises overrides what I said ;)

Good luck! Let us know what happens!

HEY congrats on getting accepted to nursing school :smokin::). But to anyone considering this school it see awesome and I know a few people accepted and attending this school and it is not ACEN(formally nlnac) accredited not even in its candidacy stage go to the website and check for yourself or call like I did to make sure. I am not saying you won't enjoy the school but when it comes to transfering to other schools or even working in certain hospitals or clinics accreditation will matter. I am not here to sway anyone one way or another just do your research even the school they are affiliated with for your bachelors is not ACEN(formally NlNAC) accredited thats Pacific college. I found my info though research and from my rep who was honest so of course its a personal choice what anyone does but really research before spending the money.

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE WHATEVER YOU JOURNEY

Thanks @shanie818! I know PCOM's nursing program is relatively new... A friend of mine went to their open house and wasn't too thrilled but did note they had potential so who knows what will happen down the line.

I know about the Swedish Institute's state accreditation. According the admissions department, they were just awarded candidacy into the ACEN program; however, when I talked to someone at ACEN they said that once an institution is in the candidate stages, they would be posted on the website. I tried to ask more questions about how regularly updated the postings were but she didn't have much of an answer, nor could she actually confirm (or deny) that Swedish Institute was actually awarded candidacy... mind you I called at 5pm on Monday so maybe I wasn't in touch with someone who actually had the power to check. I'll do more research. I don't know if I'm too worried about it, though. You'll have to ask me when I graduate ;)

Every nursing program has to go through this initial phase. Who knows... maybe their accreditation will come through once I graduate (hopefully :cat:)

Either way I'll keep everyone at AN posted on how the 1st semester goes.

Hi, Whealer and Godson

I too was accepted to this school for a start date of January. I like the friendly atmosphere and that they have a strong support system for the students. Right now I am waiting to see what classes will transfer over. I have A&P 1 and 2 and the other GE classes. Do you know how long that process will take. It has been a week now.

I already did the NLN and my interview w/ the Dean in the beginning of August. All my paperwork are all completed, well except for the drug screening. I will do that in December. Keep me posted on your experience and can't wait to meet yall.

Anyone else accepted?

Hey there! They may ask for a copy of course descriptions from your previous colleges. They asked me to do that and I made sure to send that along to them asap. I'm still waiting to hear the date for orientation and to see if my credits transfer too. I'm supposed to hear back from them this week but I'll bug my admissions counselor to see if there's an update. If you're getting enrolled in January you may not hear back from them for a while.

You definitely need to be proactive. Call, make sure to get all the paperwork to them in-person, and email your counselor.

ok thanks so much! I will stay on top of them and I hope all your classes transfer over. I wish I knew what classes will transfer because Im also trying to get into Monroe College. I am a second degree student and I am a LPN. Just want to make sure that I chose the best school that will not cost me an arm and a leg.

Ill keep you posted.

Hi, I'm thinking of applying to this program. Just forums out about it today. I've finished ALL pre-reqs, just need the Nuring classes. For those that have finished all pre-reqs...what was the admission process like for you, the NLN exam and what are your hours being that you've completed the pre-req courses. Much appreciated...thank you.

So far the pre-reqs I have been able to transfer are Composition, Intro to Psych, and Oral Communications. I would have been able to add College Math to that list but if I did, then I would have lost my loans for the semester. Fine by me since math isn't my strongest suit ;) Anywho, their classes are M-F from 9-3pm; tentatively I may only have to go in M-W and may have shorter days. I'm still waiting for them to confirm however.
