SW Boces Entrance Exam

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi everyone!! I applied to Southern Westchester Boces and I am scheduled to take my entrance exam next Thursday. I am looking for anyone who has attended or has recently been accepted to the school. Or even anyone who knows anything about the test and scores needed in order to get accepted. I'm getting very nervous about the exam and any advice would be appreciated. I am curious to know how students are accepted - what scores are they looking for? Thank you!

So proud of my StephanieP. Good luck to all accepted already in the program. Be prepared to working really hard. Its stressful but it pays off in the end. and the 10 months go by soooooooooooo fast.

And the books they give you come in a HUGE box and it's HEAVY!

Hey guys! I got accepted into the day program as well. I was wondering if it's too late to switch to the evening program? I've had some personal issues come up, and was wondering if any of the past students know or have any suggestions?

I already paid my deposit, so I'm freaking out. I couldn't get in contact with the program manager, and have to wait till Monday.

Last year, I got accepted in the evening program and I called and switched to the day program, call the school on Monday and speak to The LPN Coordinator, I am quite sure she will make the change...good luck.

Hi, when you say huge box- how many books are we talking about???

Hi new students of SW BOCES. I am pleased to announce that i recently passed my NY state boards. I am officially an LPN. Boces prepares you 100% for your state boards. it may become stressful and overwhelming but stay focussed and study study study.

@Alicia2BLPN....CONGRATULATIONS!!!:yeah:

Can I just ask what did you do to review for NCLEX? And where did you take your test? Thanks in advance.

I purchased the Exam Cram book. I used the CD to do practice questions and it comes with a "cram sheet" that also proved very helpful.The greatest advice is to do as many practice questions as possible. However i honestly only did about a total of 200 questons and reviewed the cram sheet the night before and day of my exam. i was vey worried because i didnt study nearly as much as i would have like to but it went to prove that BOCES had prepared me more than i had imagined. I took my exam in Manhattan at the William Street Testing center last friday.

ok we are two weeks into the program so why I haven't met any you you guys yet?

I took the C-net for Boces Southern Westchester and just recieved a call for an interview:confused:. I would like to know

if there are anyone who recently had an interview. I would love to get some information on he process of the interview. Please and thank you.

i just graduated from boces on june 19, 2012

these are some of the questions they might ask you:

why do you want to be a nurse?

would you be interested in doing the day or night program? why do you chose the day program (or night program)?

tell me a time where you experienced something difficult and how did you overcome it?

tell me the most difficult decision you ever had to make?

what is your greatest weakness?

who will be supporting you while you attend school?

what does a licensed practical nurse do?

do you plan on working while attending school?

do you have any other commitments (for example childcare)?

do you have children? (they're really not supposed to ask this question..)

what qualities do you have that will help you progress in the program?

they might also ask you;

if you know what an lpn does- check out ny states scope of practice for lpn.

where i would like to be in the future with your nursing career.

how you planned on studying and if you had study habits.

don't forget to ask questions.

i suggest that you read past post on this thread, it helped me a lot when i first started this process.

good luck

Hi Everyone,

I have been following and reading posts for months and I would like to say thank you very much for your tips and information. I took the exam received my results three weeks later and a call for an interview a day after receiving my results. I went for my interview yesterday and I was asked the exact same questions posted I believe on page 22 or 23 of this thread and repeated above. I had my answers ready. Everything went well except the interviewer asked if I took A&P classes which even though I have a four year degree in another field and I had already started taking pre-reqs I did not have those Bio classes. Now I am trying not to fret. She told me that I should receive a letter in 5 days of their decision. I am not sure if not having A&P will be a factor in their decision but I would hate to reach so far just to be let down. If anyone has been asked the same questions please feel welcome to comment. I appreciate any answer. Now five days is looking like a lifetime!
