I'm new to this site. So I was wondering if there is anyone out there who has applied to SPSON and passed the hesi exam. I took the hesi exam abut 2 weeks ago on April 16. I haven't heard back from the school yet. The admissions rep said I would get notified from the school in 2 weeks and I am starting to get a bit worried! Has anyone gotten an acceptance letter yet??

Hi- can anyone tell me what the tuition for this school is? What is acceptance based on & how long does it take? This school will be a GREAT convenience for me as I live & work in Queens. Oh and this being NLN Accredited, any word on that?? Somebody ease my mind please.

The tuition just went up from $633 a credit but I don't know the new rates off the top of my head. Acceptance is based on passing the wonderlic during the school presentation/orientation then the HESI and of course your GPA. The school is no longer under review for NLN accreditation. I hope this helps in your decision making... best of luck to you.

@Mrspinkett, do you know why, they are not under review anymore. I find this rather troubling. I noticed they have a new director of nursing. I was hesitant in going here, but I know they do clinical at good places, and they were under review. I am still torn.

They are still in candidacy status till September 2013.

I was told by the school director his self that as of these recent past weeks they are no longer being considered, and the NLN website just hasn't updated their page. No reason given, just that they hope to be considered in the future.

Hmmm...as much as i want to apply here based on it being a 2 year program. SPOSN no longer being considered doesnt seem like a good thing. I need to be absolutely sure that my credits will be transferred. Bachelors program it is. Thanks everyone.

from St Pauls nursing school on staten island? If so, are...

Hi All,

Has anyone recently graduated from St Pauls nursing school on staten island? If so, are you working in a NY Hospital?

Also, what classes do I have to take at CSI to be able to transfer and get my BSN at Staten Island College?

I am so unsure if going to St. Pauls is the right thing to do with them not being NLN accredited. I am worried about not getting into a hospital in Manhattan. Any help or advice would be awesome..............

Also, Has anyone done the BSN at Chamberlain online and if so how was that experience?

NLN accreditation isn't what it used to be. Unless your planning on doing your grad studies in a top tier school (ivy) or working for the best hospitals, it doesn't matter. Now going to an NLN accredited school doesn't mean you'll get into those schools or get that magnet hospital job, there is wayyyyy more to it than an NLN accredited Associates degree. Something everyone forgets about is that when you graduate from the best nursing school or Spson, you have 0 experience. It's all about who you know and how long you've been working so they don't have to hold your hand for 3 or 6 months and find out your not cut out for it. So stop stressing over the lil things and focus on getting into a state accredited nursing school that will give you a diploma, graduate and pass the nclex.

Also, St. Vincent's (before it became St. Pauls) was never accredited by the NLN. It had the best reputation regardless.

Cannot find anything yet on their last incarnations, but both the Manhattan and Staten Island Saint Vincent's Hospital schools of nursing were NLN accredited. See:

In fact IIRC as ADN programs both the Manhattan and SI programs were NLN accredited as well.

To say accreditation does not matter is not entirely true. Branches of the US military for one require one to hold a BSN from an accredited nursing program.

First and foremost accreditation by the two major institutions tells employers, other nursing programs and so forth that certain standards in regards to the quality of nursing education have been met. This could prove particularly true of one moves around the country or world away from the area where you went to nursing school.

I find it so strange that they were in candidacy status and then out of the blue accredited. I am mostly surprised due to the fact that an employee specifically told me that St Pauls pulled their NLN application because the NCLEX stats came back and they weren't pleased.
