Your post has been moved to the New York Nursing forum to increase the likelihood of receiving responses from people who live in NY and work at this hospital. Good luck to you.

I've worked at SFH for three years now, when I first started it was great.. Now everyone there is miserable. There's been a mass exodus of nurses, nurses are so frustrated that several just stopped coming to work.. Almost every night nurses get slammed with 8 patients, staffing sucks! Patients are getting downgraded at like 12AM, it's insane.. So much is expected but we don't get the help we need. We get constant lectures on Hcap and press games scores..never once do we get a thank you.. Our med surg patients are considered critical care or even step down patients in other hospitals.. The bumex, the nitro, the heparin, the primacor drips, the fresh post open heart patient whose in raf, your cbi patient, it's great experience for little pay. It's frustrating, since I've been at SFH, I've known over 15 nurses who've left for other hospitals. Rethink SFH.

I've not been at SFH for as long as adelphiRN, but don't think it's quite THAT bad. Yes it's busy and yes the patients we see in med-surg units are in some cases much more acute than would be likely in med-surge units in other hospitals. Maybe each SFH unit is different but I'd say more often than not I don't have 8 patients - 7 or 6 is more common. And I feel like most times I do have the help I need - either from support staff, managers, or other nurses.

SFHs' reputation has quickly degraded into a sweat shop for nurses under the heavy handed authority of an incompetent nursing administration. It's a classic example of the "peter principle". They have more "Nursing VPs" than doctors on staff!
Even longstanding physicians are questioning why nurses are leaving in droves. The general nursing staff is under constant criticism and get ZERO support from those in authority.
A recent example, an unhappy relative threatened to come back with a weapon...admin gave them free parking!
Radiologists? At best, incompetent, at worst, dangerous.
It's scandalous but, they likely have the resources to cover it up...for now.
Regrettable for a once great cardiac center
Are these credible points of info? Do your own investigation and you'll find them all true and only the "tip of the iceberg"!

Isn't this the place that is being sued by nursing or some other staff member because they won't acknowledge same sex marriage and grant spousal bennies?

6 patients?!? You must come from 2W! I on the other hand come from the infamous floor that closed and reopened only a month later. For two months we had no supplies, no oxygen tubing for a patient having chest pain..no staff, constantly having nurse extenders/ccps floating, it was and still is a nightmare.. Honestly your only support is your fellow competent nurses, those that give a **** about your mental state at the end of the night.. Ancillary constantly being pulled from the floor to "help" others out.. The other night I floated to the er and took care of critical care and step down patient. Let me remind you that I'm only a med surg nurse, the charge nurse down in the er said I could take care of these patients because they were both dnr's. are you kidding me?? That's doesn't mean they don't require a higher level of care, that doesnt mean you stop providing care. You can't just stick them on a med surg unit because they are a dnr!! I could continue with this horror story but I won't. I have since left the **** show they call SFH. The previous poster is totally correct in all statements. They have whatever means to cover up they're wrong doings. SFH is bound to go under, it's already started sinking. Btw. They don't cover birth control.. I pay $100 a month for contraception. They need to get with the times.
