Roosevelt hospital-start in July!

hi all,
New grad Jan '08-feels like that was years ago! I start work at roosevelt hospital in manhattan in July (med surg days) and want to know if anyone's experienced their orientation, pharm test etc...
I'm excited but definitely nervous, nursing school seems ages ago (i started applying for jobs mid april after taking nclex) and feel like I'm back to square one nursing knowledge wise. I plan on reviewing my med surg book/meds/procedures before starting work so I don't look like an idiot

Congrats! I work at Roosevelt in L&D since last September. The pharm test is fairly hard, but you get 2 chances if you don't pass the first time. Orientation is classroom for the first few weeks, and then is floor specific I think. I really like working at Roosevelt (even though we are crazy busy 90% of the time!). We have a great contract (just renegotiated). Good luck!

does the pharm test get as specific as knowing exact dosages or each specific med or will knowing mainly about the classifications and exceptions/particulars of certain drugs in that class be enuf?

got a couple days to really study for it-I printed my old lecture notes from pharm class and making extra notes on those....and just quickly reviewing calculations etc...studying is such a bore/chore :yawn: but at least it's for work this time and I can expect to get paid for it

The test has about 10 computation questions and the rest are identification of meds. Human resources should have given you a review packet for the test.

Hey... Citygrl646... I noticed you were in the same boat as me ... I graduated about 5 months ago and pased the boards a month ago. I feel like as each day goes by I am losing my skills. I Have an interview with Roosevelt hospital/st. lukes... I was hoping you could answer a few questions as well as anyone else out there with info

1) Which continuum hospitals and units are the best and worst to work in?

2) How is their orientation for new grads?

3) How do union dues affect your pay?

4) Mandatory overtime, do they have it and how often is it enforced?

5) Patient to Nurse Ratio?

6) Interview process and questions?

7) Which of these hospitals/units has the most current technology and which are the most out of date?

8) Starting salary as of 11/2008 and will they change as of 1/2009?

9) They seem to be constantly hiring, is their a high turnover rate?

I saw your post from a couple years ago and I am in the same boat you were right now! I am about to take the pharmacology exam at Roosevelt and I'm pretty nervous. Can you please help me out and tell me if I need to memorize all of the exact dosage ranges for all the drugs in the packet? I am very overwhelmed! Thanks!

I know this is a year later.. but I am about to take the pharm test for St. Luke's hospital and I am nervous! yes I got the packet from HR but jeez there are tons of medications to know so I am wondering how specific they get on the medication questions?
