PRN position offered, can i take it?

U.S.A. New York

Hello everyone:

I am a new grad RN. My PCP has been kind enough to try and help me out while I job search. He's helped me in the past and now is asking if I would be willing to do follow up visits to some of his patients in their homes to take vitals and administer medications. I am comfortable doing either, but am I allowed to do this?

Thanks in advance!

Hi

Montefiore takes a while to get back to you, if you are new grad. If you are experienced i heard the process is fast. I interviewed with them over a year ago as a new grad and it took them at like 2 months to get back to me. The HR Recruiter said they have a lot of new grad applicants including those that are friends or relatives of employees so it takes a while to get back to everyone. I had no connections to any hospital and I was working at a social services pediatric clinic as my first RN job. By the time i heard back from Montefiore, I had already accepted a job with a city hospital in their inpatient OB/L&D/maternity department. So what is meant to be and where you are meant to be happens. Good luck!

Thank you! I'm trying to be patient. But I'm very anxious. I think I will take the part time job at the psych hospital (even though I don't want to, but I need the money) and if I hear back from Montefiore I will most likely take the job. If you don't mind me asking did you get offered the job at Monte? Also is the process longer for new grad because we have no hospital "paper trail"? And since my first interview was with the NM do you think that possibly my process could go faster or just as slow?

Hi. Thank you! Yes I am working at Monte now and thus far it's been great! The nurses are very receptive to new grads and definitely facilitate the experience from student to nurse (at least for the floor I'm on.) I was hired for part time day shift which is at least 37.5 hours biweekly, but right now I work full time; 72 hours biweekly. Orientation always starts on days- but if you work nights, they work you day and then nights. For me, my manager decided I'll be orienting days and then the last week I'll do nights since there may be a full time night position opening up.[/quote']

Hello, I'm a new grad who just had an interview 2 weeks ago with Monte (with the nurse manager), and I was wondering if I had an interview with the NM is the process just as slow? Also what did you do while waiting to hear back?

Hi I was offered job and cleared by hr to start orientation at a city hospital in brooklyn 3 weeks after my interview with montefiore NM. City hospitals are great experience...u get to see everything as more people from everywhere seek care at city hospitals. So I contacted Montefiore to let them know I'm no longer looking for job. I know two new grads that Interviewed at montefiore and their process took a while...two months after NM interview. It takes longer for new grads b/c as u know hospitals prefer RNs with experience. They take new grad when they don't find suitable nurse with experience. And esp if you are a new grad with no connections...it takes longer. Not fair but its how it is. I had zero connections to any hospital and I still got hired. Apply everywhere.

That's the thing, I got this interview through my best friends' aunt. I sent her my resume and the NM called me the very next day to set up an interview. Which was how I was able to skip HR interview first and go straight to the NM. But after she (the NM) said if I was hired I would hear from HR. It will 2 weeks and 1 day today. And I'm still waiting. I called on Tuesday for an update and the recruiter still has not gotten back to me. Yup, I applied everywhere in NY possible. I live in NJ and have applied all over also and have got nothing so I decided to do out of state which I'm excited about. I want to travel all over so I would love to get this job. Pray for me! Haha.
