Pace University CDP

U.S.A. New York

If anyone is or has attended PACE in NYC please give some feedback about the CDP/accelerated BSN program.

THANK YOU!

hey, I am just about to graduate from the CDP program in 2 weeks. The program is not bad... the professors are all really great, the program is disorganized but we all got through! Some of the classes are really annoying and many of the clinical professors are jerks but i guess its a small price to pay for a nursing degree in 1 year.

Thanks for responding! Do you feel it was worth the $$$? I am about to start the pre-reqs at Hunter, but I have already had a horrible experience there and the first class hasn't even started!!!!! I am thinking about applying to Pace for Fall 2008--even if I don't have all the pre-reqs finished, it seems to be the only school that will let you take nursing courses while doing the pre-reqs.

Are you going full time? Do you work while attending? And in what way do you find the professors to be jerks? And does Pace help you with job placement?

Any info you can give me is greatly appreciated!

Congrats on your graduation!

yea i go full time- 1 year program... i dont work b.c i have a child at home but there are a few people that work some nights and weekends and stuff. The program is intense, we lost about 10-12 people since the begining of the year, mostly from failing patho and they got kicked out or dropped down to the 4 year program in pleasantville. The clinical faculty think they know everything and try to make you feel incompetent and scare you. If you just ignore them and do what u have to, you'll be fine. I'm diff. I have a big mouth and all my professor's know I'll speak up to anyone without a problem!! Bu overall it was worth the money to me b/c it was only 1 year... I didin;t have time to stay home and do it over 2 years at a community college... it's very expensive but i got it over with REALLY fast which was most important!

Good Luck, Hope this Helps!

This is a big help. Thanks!

oh--where did you complete your pre-reqs?

I am new at this ALLNurses.com and I have been reading up on your posts about the PACE CDP program.

Regarding the teachers: Did they show any passion in teaching?

Regarding the tests: So you would say, I would have to also read up other subjects that the teacher doesn't go over in class?

Regarding the Clinicals: Do we get to choose our instructors?

What would your advice be for me regarding this program? What should I be ready for or prepare myself to do this 1 year program?

I hope someone can help me out. Thanks.

Hi all,

I was just admitted to Pace's CDP program in NYC. I live in D.C right so have six weeks to find a place. Any suggestions on where it would be convenient (and not insanely expensive) to live? I am thinking Brooklyn or LES.

Also, any people out there whop received the Helene Fuld Scholarship? I have some questions.

Thanks,

Kristen

I am planning on applying to PACE, have no nursing experience, bachelors in Psych with a GPA of 2.9 but major gpa of 3.4 no pre-reqs just psych, stats and chem completed. and yet to take the gre or mat... any opinions or stories to share, wondering if anyone knows if they accept anyone with gpas under 3.0

Can someone tell me what the requirements are to get into the 1-year program? I know that it's intense...and I'm assuming it's for an Associates in Nursing right?

For ONCE in my life, I have two things going for me. I saved up and can afford to take 1-2 years off...and my parents are offering to pay for my degree if I can't get financial aid...so money, for once, wouldn't be an issue.

This is the only "meal ticket" I am EVER going to get in my life and I just want to take advantage of it. Is it hard to get into the 1 year program? Or is it easy since most people can't do the one year thing due to work and/or finances?

I'm a little worried because I only have 42 units from my old community college in San Diego but 2 semesters I had to withdraw..I didn't realize that the W (instead of an F) would weigh down my GPA just as badly! So I have a 2.2 with them...and more like a 3.0 without them :(. I don't know where to start.

I keep telling my mom that it seems impossible to get into a Nursing program but my parents keep telling me that if I try hard I HAVE to get in eventually. See...I know people with 4.0 GPAs who have been on the waiting list for two years...I don't mind working hard..I just want to know that I even have a slight chance :(.

Well thanks for any feedback in advance. I hope one day I am in the shoes where I can give a struggling student, such as myself, advice and positivity..

Do Not give UP. Try Stonybrook . I heard they allow you to go pt and the fees are low. Not as expensive as Pace .....

Also try the community colleges in NY.

thank you for the encouragement. i just keep telling myself that it will be worth it to stick it out. did you go to pace of stonybrook? if so, how hard was it to get in? i'm applying at monroe college for their lpn program. basically, from what i know, 200 people test for that..and they only accept 30 people annually. i'm smart..but i can't help to cringe at the thought of having a 1 in 7 chance (approx.) of getting in. if i am lucky enough to get in, i will be able to finish the program in just under a year. if not, i'm going to continue taking classes at a cuny college and hope that i get accepted. i will make it a point to get all a's...but i heard that so many people are rejected from their programs. :(. that program takes a year and a half (18 months)...so quite a bit longer..but i guess i have to keep my options open.:nurse:

No. I remember when I was your age and everyone said I would never get into a school. I have a BS from Columbia and an MS from Columbia.

As you get older you get better study habits. Also try and find someone that is taking the same course as you and try and study or discuss the work that will help. I am trying to get into an accelerated program. Columbia discriminated against me . I am sending a letter to Lee Bollinger. I decided to look into the Pace Program. Also look at University of medical and dental in Jersy City. That looked like a flexible program. I like the rotations at Pace. I have 28 years experience as a dental hygienist. I have done research and private practice. My MS gpa is good. 3.89 my BA gpa is so so. 3.1. I am thinking of taking some online courses at Suny and repeating the microbiology .

It is very cheap. I will also take some short courses that are more expensive but will save time. Orgeon state gives a 5 pt chemistry with lab for 1000 dollars approx. Phoenix give 8 weeks anatomy with labs for about 450 per credit. I have a lot of experience with excellent references. I just got taken for a fool at Columbia which was not right. I will fight them tooth and nail. I want to eventually be a CRNA. Make sure you at least become an NP because in 2015 you must have a doctorate to become NP.

Write me any time I will be happy to respond.
