Pace Accelerated Program- Spring 20100

I was also accepted to the spring 2011 program. After hearing everything here I am a little nervous but it seems the majority of the negative comments were about the nyc program and not the westchester one. I am currently finishing up microbiology and nutrition. I've also taken out an NCLEX review book and a medical terminology book from my local library to get prepared for the program.

The Westchester program isn't much better. Many of the same problems. And you are gonna need a lot more then a NCLEX book and a Med term book to prep for it....

I've read the negative comments as well, but I am keeping an open mind. I am also working on finishing up prerequisite - I have a chem final today and I need to finish my microbiology course. I am excited about starting the program, I can't believe it is only a month away.

Would you recommend any books GTD? I also got Fundamentals Success by Nugent & Vitale. I'm expecting the next year to be very hard from what I've read. I finished the last of my prerequisites and am trying to study as much as I can to prepare myself. Good luck on your finals Mary!

Pathophysiology....It will be the HARDEST class you will take in the first semester. The book that you use in class is very in depth and it is a hard read as well. So any books to supplement that will be good. The next year will be the hardest, most stressful, most exhausting year of your life. Getting kicked out is a reality. I have a strong medical and science background and I was kicked out of the program. I am in the 4-year program now and I'm doing great (My GPA is a 3.6 for this past semester). The CDP is very fast and intense. Don't hesitate to ask for help and don't be surprised when you don't see your friends or family for a year. All I can say is it's a lot, and that is what I've been saying all along. I wish you guys luck and maybe I'll see you around Lienhard next semester.

I got accepted into the CDP for Spring 2011, too. (Pleasantville) Yeah, you read some negative comments about Pace here, but I take then with a grain of salt. I'm 58 and excited to be making a career change. I took all my prereq's at Pace in Pleasantville. I enjoyed the experience.

Like any other environment, Pace has it's own ecological niches and personality types. I've met all kinds of people, including some really great ones.

Just don't buy in to any drama and you'll be fine. Be nice to everybody, but stay true to yourself. People who are unhappy act as if nursing school is a "zero sum game." (That is, they think anyone who does well takes away from them. Baloney. I certainly hope all my classmates do well!)

Just my opinion.

PS. I'm glad I'm old, married to a sweetie pie, mortgage paid off. No kids. Don't have the same issues the younger students have, and I really feel for them.

Congrats to all those that are in the Pace CDP program. I just applied to the NYC campus but have not taken the GRE yet because I am so worried about it.

Do you mind sharing your scores? What are they really looking for?

Hi Ilana -

I was told that they wanted a combined score of 1200 (?) on the math and verbal parts. And at least a 4 on the essay part.

I was so stressed when I finished my GRE that I ran out of the building with my pants pockets still turned inside out! But all was well and I got into the CDP program in Pleasantville. Just finishing my second week and loving it!

Believe it or not, Pace seems to like to see high scores on the verbal part. I went nuts studying for the math. I got a 570 on the math. And believe me, I just got to the point where I was guessing by the end of the Math sections.

But since I am a total Hermione Granger who never met a book she wouldn't read I got a really high verbal score. Study the vocabulary words in the GRE books and practice the reading comprehension.

PS: All the delaying taking the GRE and all the worrying I did were not worth it. The key to doing well on the GRE is to stay calm. You'll do fine!

Ilana,

Ayala has some good advice on the GREs. I did much better in the verbal than I did in the math. I do think my combined score was around 1200 - I don't remember the individual scores. Don't stress the GRE test too much. I do recommend doing practice tests so you are use to the format.
