NYU ABSN Spring 2013

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hello, I'm a long time AN reader, first time poster. I haven't seen any discussion about spring 2013 entry, so I thought I would start.

When are you guys going to apply? august or sept?

Scottnyc

Thanks for your clear and detailed response! I got in!!--so now I want to start planning for the daily logistics. Here are some more questions:

I live in Westchester and plan to take MetroNorth to the 6 train to get in. How early can classes begin, and when you have clinicals, what are the typical hours?

Speaking of clinicals, what do you think of the clinical simulation lab? Is it an effective learning model? This was tauted in the admissions overview as one of the key advantages of NYU's program. But I read in postings from prior years that it was not all it was cracked up to be--lots of onging technical issues etc.

I have always preferred to study on my own but I was wondering if being part of a study group or having a study partner is important to being successful in the program. Also, to what extent are there group project assignments in the program?

Do you have any tips on where to get books, scrubs and other required equipment cost effectively--and any other money saving tips?

Do you have any advice on getting through the reqistration process?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Future RNs,

I'm SO excited. I've been slowly taking my pre-reqs one at a time for three years, and I cannot wait to get out of marketing and into nursing. :)

Cheers,

LadyL

Nothing wrong with being an adult student. I'm 30 and changing careers. Good luck! :)

Hi All-

I too applied for the aBSN Spring 2013 @ NYU. I applied early decision, but just at the deadline. I'm impatiently waiting lol. Of course its a little discouraging to hear that people have already gotten in, but congratulations to you guys :)

Here's my stats: I have an undergrad in psychology with a GPA of 3.0- i earned by BA in psychology with "distinction" meaning my GPA was higher for my major. I completed 30 credits towards a masters in school psychology with a GPA of 4.0 (after fieldwork I realized it was not for me and dropped out of that) So far, I have a 4.0 in all of my prerequisites except for chemistry, which is currently in progress. Based on this information, I would consider myself a strong applicant.

Here's the problem- Although I was able to raise my undergrad GPA to a 3.0 by taking classes over, I have a significant number of F's on my transcript- I tried to do some explaining in my essay. I was ill during college- endo disease- and suffered a lot of anxiety and depression as a result which affected my grades- it's actually the reason I want to get into the field.

What do you guys think? Is my undergrad going to ruin my changes? I was in undergrad from 2001-2005, so it was a long time ago.

I hope to hear from them soon!!

Hey!

Excited RNN- good idea, I'll do that.

RhodyRed- thank you! I'm not sure how NYU would have known my mid-semester grades. In my acceptance email it does say indirectly that my acceptance is sort of contingent on my final grades in Chem and Micro, which I understand. I mean so far I've taken two exams in each class and I have a 90 avg in each. I don't mind you asking me. My undergrad gpa was 3.37 from Hunter College in political science and my prereqs are (should I really list them out?) AP 1 A, AP 2 B+, Statistics B (God I hate math!) Dev Psych A, Nutrition A, Anthropology A, Sociology A (Those two I took because I thought I was applying to SUNY Downstate).

I think also my experience helped me, I worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for 3 years and ran the NYC marathon in 2011 for cancer research.

LadyL - I am going to be 30 in July!! Late bloomer =)

Lahhere- I've come to the conclusion that I really don't know what these ad coms look for, I feel like you just never know. But in MY opinion, I think you should be okay...I mean you have a good reason for having those grades, it's not like you partied thru college. Though I don't any F's, I do have 2 withdraws and 2 No credits for a math class that I opted to take for credit/no credit, in 2006. And I still got in. So you just don't know.

Has any one else heard since the first batch went out on Tuesday? I was hoping that another would be emailed today.

NO and I'm going crazy!!!! I've never been so anxious in my life!!!

@lahhereNo need to worry I was in the same boat as you in terms of you're undergrad. I had a couple F's but I was still accepted. I applied right before the priority deadline. Good luck!

thanks for your comment ScentelessApprentice. I really hope to hear from them soon. I think someone here mentioned that some rejections have gone out already. that could be a little hopeful since i havent gotten one of those yet!

I'm just so paranoid of this undergrad ruining my chances. I may be absolutely ridiculous and call and admissions counselor, explain my story (if shell listen), and plead with her!

so, as far as I understand from reading, admission decisions definitely went out tuesday. were anymore send on wednesday or thursday?

i got in today!! so excitedd

bleedgangreen - What time did you get the email?
