NY/NJ reciprocity for LPN's??

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hello,

I haven't found anything posted recently. I am an LPN working in NJ and want to maintain my NJ license, but also be able to work in NY.

Do they offer reciprocity yet or would I have to apply for a license in NY also? Is there any testing or requirements involved....also does anyone know how long this might take?

Thanks so much!!!!

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

Only the NCLEX is reciprocal. You apply for a NY nursing license by endorsement. As long as you meet CE requirements and pay the fees for maintaining your license you can be licensed in both NY & NJ.

NY requires specific CE classes for those not educated in NY on child abuse and infection control. There are links on the NY BoN website. Just complete the requirements for a license by endorsement & pay the required fees.

I think you are referring to the nursing license compact, neither NY, NJ (nor PA or CT) are participants in the NLC therefore any of desiring to work in one of these states needs a license to practice in that state.
