Nursing scholarships at CUNY Schools?

U.S.A. New York

Question to those of you who are attending or attended CUNY Nursing programs.

Do you know of any nursing related scholarships, grants etc. that are offered to CUNY nursing students? Specifically the names of such scholarships and grants if you were a recipient of one?

I went to my schools scholarship office and did not have much success there, was told go search online.

If anyone knows of any CUNY grants/scholarships or ways that helped you with tuition payments would be great.

Thanks

I attended a CUNY (Hunter College). There are no nursing specific scholarships at CUNY. You have to apply for general financial aid through the FAFSA form and you will receive grants, work study, etc if you qualify. Each CUNY also has general scholarships that are not specific to any major. Apply for those, they should be on the financial aid section of the school's website. The only nursing specific scholarships I know are through NLN (National League for Nursing), NHNA (National Hispanic Nurses Association) as well as other ethnic associations, and the NSNA (National Student Nurses Association). These all have chapters based in NYC. So look on these organizations websites for info on the scholarships. CUNYs are quite affordable (compared to the non city universities) so if you have a job while going to school, it will also help you financially. FYI if you work as CNA/PCT while in school it will not only provide you with $ but also with an 'in' to the hospital once you graduate.

Thank you estrealla that was helpful. I was looking for CNA programs that I can do either during winter or summer break, NYS Nursing - Nurse Aide (CNA) Programs

Lots of CUNYs have con ed CNA programs. Would be amazing to get a scholarship of some sort to cover some of the cost, I do get Pell Grants but they only cover part of the tuition.

My experience as a CNA is not helping me much if at all with finding a RN job. Most companies want RN experience, I have 6 yrs long term care experience at a nursing home and have been turned down many times. My advice to you is try for CNA POSITION in a hospital this way you would be considered as an internal applicant. Hope that helps

there are no scholarship for continuing education. If you only have a high school diploma or GED you may qualify for the SUNY Equal Opportunity Centers (google them) or the Workforce1 Centers CNA programs where they sponsor your training.
