NSLIJ Hiring Process

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi all! I was wondering if someone could shed some light on the hiring process at NSLIJ. I applied online for a position on 6/25 & was called on 7/9 by a nurse recruiter. We spoke for a few minutes about the position and she also asked me a few questions. She then set up an interview to meet the Director of the department that same Friday (7/11). I feel like the interview went well & ran pretty long (I'd say about 40 minutes), and at the end, the Director gave me her card & told me that she promised to be in touch. She also told me to make sure to send my references to the nurse recruiter that I spoke to. She took the time to walk me out of the office, and then we shook hands, & I once again thanked her for taking the time for meeting with me.

The next morning, I made sure to put a thank you card in the mail for her. On Monday, I sent my references to the recruiter as requested. The recruiter then contacted me & told me that she had to send me a link where I would then have to enter my reference information. The 5 references will then be sent an email with a link, which will enable them to fill out a survey about me. I completed this on Monday & all of my references completed their surveys by Thursday. I did email the nurse recruiter in between, on Wednesday, just to follow up & see what the next steps were. She responded that she will contact me back once all of my references came back.

The waiting is the worst part of this process. I want this position SO bad.. & every day, I find myself staring at my phone or constantly checking my email just waiting for a response.

Has anyone had an experience where they were asked for references & then offered a job shortly after? Does reference checking pretty much mean that I got the job? I'm not sure what the next step would be. Usually, a first interview would be with HR or a recruiter & then a 2nd would be with the director or manager of the department. Since I went on my first interview with the director of the department, would I just get an offer? If anyone has any information about their hiring process or just their experiences, that would be great! I'm trying to stay positive!!!!

Sorry for the lengthy post.

It sounds like you definitely got the job! I'm sure they're just checking your references, like you said. They'll probably have you start orientation in August.

I had an interview with a director at NSLIJ as well and I did get the job!! I'm so excited! I start in about a week. The hiring process is just as you mentioned but I did not submit my references until after I had a verbal offer of employment as my current employer would have to be notified of my intention to leave. I let the hiring manager know this and she totally understood and made sure I had the offer letter in hand. After the verbal offer came the written offer letter online. I submitted my references the same day I got the letter. Sounds to me like you got the job. Check online and sign in to the job page to see if you have any messages there.

Thanks so much for your reply, DoingGodsWork. First & foremost, congratulations on your new position!! That is great!!

I still have not heard back. Friday will make two weeks since the interview (which doesn't seem like a long time, but to me it feels like an eternity!!!). All of my references came back last Thursday & I thought for sure I'd get a phone call today, but unfortunately I didn't. I even reached out to the nurse recruiter via email earlier this afternoon & did not receive a response. When is the background check performed?? I figured that maybe this was the hold up, but doesn't a background check require a SSN?

I look forward to your response. Thank you so much & congrats again!

I have been applying for RN position since May!! Am a new grad. Nothing yet.

Did you apply online or did you have a referral from an employee?

Friendlyelse,

I applied online, but I was referred by an employee. Even though I was referred, I still had to apply online! Still haven't heard back. I know it's a huge organization, which means things could just take time! So I'm trying not to lose hope. Good luck to you!

Hello,

I don't know if this thread is active but I wanted to know how far in advance to apply for the fellowships? I am on an accelerated bsn program and will graduate in May 2016. I have the option of obtaining my associate degree at the end of this term and hopefully pass the NCLEX. I know the program only accepts bsn students so have you all applied after you graduated or can you apply while in school? Thanks!

Hi LPNin2011

Have you heard anything back from them? Seems like a long time to be waiting, but you never know what could be going on. Like you said, they are really busy and may take sometime getting back to you. I think a background check does require a ssn so if you didn't give it to them then they would not be doing a background check at this time. They do check you nurse license and previous job experience. Hang in there and good luck....apply elsewhere while you wait, it's a great distraction and you may even find something else along the way.

Hi!

I JUST received a verbal offer yesterday (how exciting!!!). I spoke to the recruiter again today and she promised me an offer letter via email today but didn't receive it. She did verbally tell me a start date & made appointments for me to go to employee health & processing (?) next week. I'm so excited, but would love to have that offer letter in hand to know that it is official! I filled out the background check form & faxed it back to the recruiter as soon as I received it.

Congrats!! I am still hopeful I keep applying.

Congrats!! I'm so excited for you!! Yayyy... I went through the same exact process. I really wanted that offer letter in hand and it did take a day or two to get it but don't worry, it's on the way. That is exactly how it went for me. I'm in orientation now and I love it. They have an excellent orientation with nurse educators who review a lot of the nursing basics with you so it feels a little like nursing school all over again, but the staff is awesome and the other nurses are just as excited as I am. Welcome to the health system. I really believe they are doing some innovating things here.
