North Shore LIJ job advice

U.S.A. New York

I am a nurse with 13 years of a specialty area experience. I recently interviewed with the Nurse Manager on the floor. The interview went well. They are very busy and need help. I interviewed for a per diem job. I met with HR briefly before the interview. This was on December 5th. Following that, I recieved an email to have my references checked. That was all done on December 17th. My question is, i have not heard back from either the nurse manager or HR about the job. I emailed both of them this week and have not heard back still. Do they typically tell you you did NOT get hired? Is this bad that I have not heard back following my reference checking? Can a job offer take this long?

Im so bummed. I really wanted this job!

Specializes in Emergency Services.

I feel your pain! Dealing with HR with these NYC hospitals is stressful. In my opinion, I think you're still in the running, they're just taking their sweet time getting back to you. Things seem to be especially difficult post-Sandy, with many hospitals pulling job postings from their websites.

I think many places have been waiting for 2013 to determine their nursing needs and start the active hiring process. One of my contacts gave me a heads-up on some jobs coming down the pipe soon...but soon can't come quick enough.

Thanks for your repsomse. It is weird to me because during the interview she was talking about starting right away, that I'd have no problem getting back into it etc... They are swamped in the unit and need nurses badly. At first I thought they weren't calling because it was the week Christmas. Now I don't know . The nurse manager is usual,y very quick with her responses. This time no repsomse. So either I'm not getting hired or something is holding it up. I've been so patient but it's been 5 weeks now since interview.

They don't follow up. I'm not sure what's going on with HR but seems like they need some help over there at LIJ. Same thing happened to almost everyone I know that interviewed there . By the way did u ever end up hearing from them ?

Yes. I did not get the job. I have 13 years experience in NICU, but left in 2008. They want current experience. The nurse manager recommended a nurse refresher course. (I have not stopped practicing nursing, I do homecare pediatrics)

Apparently the jobs are scarce and there are an abundance of applicants. It's been very hard to find a job.

Did they call you or sent you an email?
