Hi Everyone!!

Does anybody have any information on the following hospitals: Mount Sinai Medical Center, Montefiore Hospital, Hospital for Special Surgery, Lenox Hill, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, NYU Medical Center, Lutheran Medical Center, such as the atmosphere, orientation for new grad, if they are currently hiring, etc...? I'm a new grad RN from Jersey and I just found out I passed friday (I'm so excited!!) but I haven't had any luck in Jersey in finding a job. Also, how long does the license endorsement process takes in NY? Any information would be appreciated!!! :thankya:

Hi Yendis and to all other unmeployed May 2008 grad of NJ,

I have been reading a few of your posts and it looks like we are in the same boat as far as job hunting in NJ is. I am a BSN graduated May 2008, not a single call back from all the online apps. If you show up in the hospital they are just ging to tell you to fill up an application (paper or computer kiosk), so I'd rather do everything from home. I still have to get a live person on any recruiter's phone. If you already found a position maybe you can give me tips. As far as licensing out of state,

MAKE SURE YOUR LICENSE INFO IS ON NURSYS.COM!

I called the NJ board of Nursing that my license issued 08/08/08 (6 wks ago) is not on NURSYS where it should be if I need a license endorsement from another state (e.g. PA and NY). I called the NJ BON and they advised that it takes 6-8 WEEKS after the license is issued before the info is available on NURSYS for verification by another state:banghead:. From a few posts in allnurses, other states take a much shorter time. NJ always makes it more difficult. I tried adding this line to my resume in the certifications portion: "pending license endorsement verification with state of .." on my resume, but did not work, since I was up against other unemployed RNs who already have the in-state license. At this point I feel I am stuck with just follow-ups of NJ hospital apps till my license endorsements can be started.

Well, you can at least start the NY endorsement application and take the two state mandated classes in the meantime. Just a thought.

Hi I discovered your entry almost a year later after you posted. I am a new grad also interested in working in NYC...I would like to know if you had any luck finding a job, how the endorsement process went, and if you have any tips, suggestions, or words of advice to pass on? Anything would be helpful!

I already had a NJ license and applied for a NY license. I would suggest you start the process soon because it took me about 2-3 months before I received my license.

NY requires you take a child abuse class (you can take it online) and another one and NY has to get papers from the NJ board of nursing and your school before you can get your license.
