New York Presbyterian PHARM EXAM!

U.S.A. New York

Published

i am feeling overwhelming with the studying of the drugs that columbia wanted us to know. i understand knowing the side effects are important. but do they really ask you about drug interaction and the normal amount of dosage for the drug???

any input would be great. thanks in advance! :)

it's pretty much what they tell you it is. Study that book they recommend (though the test is easier than those practice Qs in the book)

If you fail the first time, just study the print out they give you after your first test and you should be fine.

please help. Do you you have the study guide??

Hey there, I came across our thread. I was wondering if you remember anything from the pharm exam for NYP. I have to take it this week. Any info you can give me is much appreciated. Thanx

hi nurse Nat how are you? Did you get hired at nyp cornell? I'm trying to get in. Scheduled for a phone interview if that goes well is the pharm test after that? How's the interview process? Thanks a lot!

Negative, You still have at least 2 more interviews to get there. 1 with a Nurse Recruiter and then with the Nurse Manager if they think you are a candidate. THEN you take your pharm exam. I actually just got job with NYP/Columbia and have to take the pharm exam on the 18th.

Hello, Da Milk of Amnesia. I was just hired by NYP Columbia and yours was the latest posting about the NYP pharm exam.

How was it? Can you please give me advice on how to study for it? It's been a couple months since NCLEX and looking for a job, so I definitely need to brush up on meds.

I'd appreciate any advice!

I'm not Da Milk of Amnesia but I took the exam last Monday. Were you given a sheet with a sample test and recommended book? Because I bought the book and studied from that.

Hi, Ebony RN. I just got the job offer and HR is doing my background check. They said I should hear back by friday with all the orientation details, including info on the pharm test. But I wanted to get a head start. Can you please tell me the name of the book? I want to check if stores by me have it or see if I need to order it online.

Congrats on the new job! Thanks for any info you can give me.

Congrats on getting the position! :yeah: If you PM me your email address, I can actually email you the pharm/orientation pdf file that has what you need to study for, what book to purchase and info on orientation.

I passed!!!!

I didn't think it was hard, but I did study like a mofo for three days. Another new hire who is an experienced nurse took the test with me and she didn't pass. While I was waiting to start I was talking to other new hires who had taken the test a month before. They were a little bit discouraging and kept telling me to brace myself for the test because it has a high first-time fail rate. They did tell me not to worry too much because if you fail the first time, you get a sheet with the questions you got wrong. Then you retake the same exact test you failed. So, it seems like they let everyone pass.

I didn't end up buying that 700 page book they recommend. That book was so discouraging and many of its practice questions were way more difficult and specific than anything you'd see on the pharm test. I used the pharm section of the book that came with my Kaplan NCLEX prep course and studied the drugs by body system. That was under 100 pages and very to the point so if you have it, use it. The dosage questions were really easy.

I passed!!!!

Congrats!! :yeah:

Congrats on passing the test! I am taking the test this Tuesday and really want to pass on the first try:)

Any tips you have for me? Is the study guide that those who failed received accessible? I spoke to someone who had to retake the test who said that it was a different test!

Thanks for your help!

Ebony RN I was wondering could you email me the pdf study material? I just had both interviews and it went well, I want to be prepared for the exam as I am currently working full time also. My email address is [email protected]. Are there many theory questions? I am taking the peds pharm exam.
