    Hi Jennifer,

I've been at St. Francis for almost a year and I really have no regrets about working there. The beginning was tough because I was new and there was so much to learn but my coworkers are amazing and were always willing to help. Management was very supportive and I've learned alot working there. I did recieve much support after orientation and I still recieve help when needed. When I started orientation was 3weeks of classroom training and 12 shifts with a preceptor on the floor. I've seen new grads get 16 shifts with a preceptor if needed. The patient to nurse ratio is probably the only downside to working there but I've been managing very well on my own. However, I've seen some new grads come through and flounder because of the patient ratios even with extended orientation. Like with any nursing job, time management and critical thinking skills is important for new grads to develop.

Good luck with your decision, I hope this helps.
    Hello ObscuredDream05,

I sent a message but I don't know if it got through cus I'm new to this forum. Anyways, i've been reading this thread and is helped me learn a lot more about St. Francis. I recently got a phone call to set up an interview and this is my first interview since graduation in may. I'm very nervous about the whole process and also the fact that I have to travel from Queens just like you mentioned in the beginning. I would really appreciate how you dealt with the public transportation and how reliable it is and how stressful it is. THANK YOU!
  2. monsterRN,

I have an interview with the Nurse Recruiter this coming Thursday. How was your interview? Any tips? I am pretty excited about getting a call back!
  3. Hi Obsured,

Your post is very informative to me. I wonder if you are still working in st francis. Are there any new grad currently having orientation on your floor? Is the orientation still at the same length that you had? I am curious what department of 1 WEST DEMATTEIS is in there?

    Thanks

    Hey Nutty12,

    To answer your questions:

    1. I was assigned to a med-surg/telemetry unit (all the med-surg units are telemetry, and some of them have sub-specialties like stroke, CHF, oncology, ortho, etc.)

    2. The nurse-patient ratio is 1:7, sometimes it can be 1:8 but I have seen nurses have as much as 9 patients!! I wish orientation was a bit longer. We had 3 weeks of classroom orientation, which was great and 3-4 weeks of floor orientation with a preceptor, which I feel is relatively short. I wish our unit orientation was longer and i know of some hospitals which offer 8-12 weeks of floor orientation.

    3. I've only been working there for about 2 months and I find the work environment stressful most of the time. That could be because Im still new and I still have alot to learn. On a positive note, the other nurses are very supportive and are always willing to help. Like most jobs you will have bad nights and occasionally, some good nights.

    I hope this helps.
    Good luck!
  4. Hi Limeric,

  5. I received a call from nurse recruiter requesting a copy of my transcript to verify that my GPA is above 3.4. I faxed it to her yesterday and haven't heard back from her about scheduling an interview. Can someone please share your experience with scheduling an interview.

    Thanks!
  6. I had my first interview with recruiter today. She said that second interviews will take place during the week of May 21st. From reading everyone's post it seems like you were all invited back for a second interview immediately after the first one. Did anyone have to wait 3 weeks to schedule a second interview with a nurse manager? Any advice will help. Thanks!
  7. Hey all-

Does anyone know if the hospital considers ADN [Associates] at all? I have a Bachelor's in Nutrition and am currently enrolling in an online RN to BSN program.

    Thanks!
  8. Has anyone had an interview with the Nurse Manager yet?
  9. How long after reference checks does St.Francis take to call back for an interview?
  10. I believe the next start date is possibly july17th? Has anyone heard anything or interviewed with a NM for that date?
