last year, Kaiser offered $37/hr for new grads...in the Bay Area. Kaiser pays for the health insurance and your spouse and kids if you have at no extra cost. I might go back to kaiser when I go back in CA, they pay the nurses well. Good luck!

That's just the base salary for new grads... Plus additional $2/hour for night diff and 0.50/hr for BSN ... I know this because I was interviewed by LIJ but I accepted an RN position in another hospital... They offer the nicest benefits(LIJ) BUT....You see its not just the salary its the atmosphere! The problem with big corporations like them they tend to be so arrogant because they feel they are so powerful that they dont give importance to their applicants... They just call you with their nicest voice schedule an interview 1st,2nd interview and then on ur 3rd one you just learn that the manager your supposed to meet is on sick call without even informing you... Then you find a way to NOT waste ur time therefor you find someone to interview u... Only to feel that ur getting no where and you might as well ask the questions because they dont knw what they're going to ask... Why? Maybe because the nurse manager nw interviewing u is as young as ur child! I imagine why? Is it because the nurses' turnover rate is just so high... Anyway to make the long story short I never heard from the recruiter and she wont even dare to return my calls.. How unprofessional!!! They just wasted my time and effort not to mention the long trip to their all so majestic office in New hyde park! I'm sooo happy I didn't end up in that hospital... :chuckle

Look into Catholic Health Services -St Francis in Port Washington (is also nice; they are the heart center in long island) /Mercy Medical center in Rockville center..
Starting rate for a new grad is $31/hr w/ 0.50 BSN diff and $2.50 night diff... Excellent environment!

i was just interviewed at Memorial Sloan Kettering where they are nonunion and are starting new grads at 70,000 plus 10% nights differential.

question is, is this a good hospital to work at, especially for a new nurse?

I know that this is a New York thread but.....

Beth Israel Boston (non union) $28.00/hr for new grads. It is one of lower playing in Boston.

you are right about LIJ. They pay very well but the other factors do drag the job down. The nurses at southside recently almost went on strike fighting for a retirement incentives cause there were none

that's a pretty decent salary. What I have noticed is that Cancer hospitals pay a lot better than regular hospitals...Good luck to you.

St. Francis does have some type of loan forgiveness program, after 6 mons working nights, you get $500 a month towards your student loans. Just a warning Mercy Med center is in trouble, be careful working for them.
