Moving to LI

U.S.A. New York

I am planning on moving to LI from VA. I'm looking to live in or around Huntington or Smithtown. Can someone recommend hospitals or clinics that are good places to work? Places to avoid would be appreciated also! I am an RN.

Specializes in ICU / PCU / Telemetry / Oncology.

Stony Brook Univ Hospital is the only Level I trauma center in Suffolk County, many nurses I knew commute there from those towns you mentioned. It is a decent place to work depending on your specialty. I'd say critical care areas are better units than the medicine units, where the ratios can be less than desirable sometimes. Mather Hospital and Huntington Hospital are also good hospitals I hear from those that work there. They are more community hospitals as opposed to Stony Brook which is a teaching hospital (Stony Brook is also in the process of constructing a large addition to their facility due to be completed next year).

As far as those to avoid, I have only heard St. Catherine's as the only one to universally avoid. I have also heard good and bad things about Brookhaven, so dont have an opinion with that one either way.
